Barcelona Hold Their Nerve To Win Against La Liga Toppers Real Sociedad
Barcelona held their nerve against the La Liga toppers Real Sociedad in today's match to win by a score of 2-1.

It was yet another interesting day in La Liga as Barcelona was locking heads with the table-toppers Real Sociedad. The 2020/21 campaign hadn’t been too great for the Catalans as they were in the 8th position on the points table. They had 17 points from the 11 games that they had played. They had won 5, drawn 2, and lost 4 games until now. On the other hand, Real Sociedad had been ruling the Spanish top flight with their game. They had won 7, drawn 5, and lost only 1 game this season out of their 13 games. Anyhow, it was now time for the clash between these two clubs. Both needed a win from this match as Barcelona could find their way to the Top 5 whereas Real Sociedad could have another 3 point edge over their close rivals Atletico Madrid.

Match Summary: Barcelona vs Real Sociedad:

First Half:

The match began and soon Barcelona kicked off. They started off with their classic possession game. Even when they lost the ball, they were pressing highly to get the ball back. It looked like they were determined to bag the 3 points from this game. However, Real Sociedad were the ones who got their name on the scoresheet first. In the 27th minute, Real Sociedad won a corner and beautifully created a play through which they got their first goal. Le Normand passed the ball to Portu who then kept in a cross for Willian Jose. The latter made no mistake and scored a simple tap-in goal to give his side the early lead. Consequently, Real Sociedad was now leading by 1-0.

However, it just took the hosts 4 minutes before they leveled the game. After a deflection, the ball came onto the left edge of the box and Alba curled it in stunningly to score the equalizer. It wasn’t how Barcelona had planned the play but anyhow, they had the game tied at 1-1. However, that was not it. Just 2 minutes before halftime, the Catalans got their second goal to take the lead. Alba kept in a cross which took a deflection from Remiro and went straight to De Jong who put the ball past the Real Sociedad goalkeeper. But, the linesman soon gave it as offside. However, after confirmation with the VAR, the goal was legal and given to the Blaugranas. As a result, the score at the end of the first half was 12-1 in Barcelona’s favor.

Second Half:

The second half began soon and now Real Sociedad was looking hungry for goals. They were now maintaining good possession of the ball and playing more attacking. However, this did not turn out to be quite well for them. They created some really good chances but the Barcelona defense and goalkeeper (Ter Stegen) kept the ball out of their goal. On the other hand, Barcelona also did not step back and was looking to put more goals past the league toppers. However, the second half ended goalless with Barcelona winning the game at home by a score of 2-1.

With this victory, Barcelona is now at the 5th position in the points table. They have now won 6 out of their 12 league games and have 20 points as they’ve drawn 2 matches. On the other hand, Real Sociedad have dropped down to the 2nd position as Atletico Madrid won the match to move ahead on the basis of goal difference. Anyhow, now Barcelona will be looking forward to maintain their winning streak and continue with this positive attitude. In their next fixture, they will be facing Valencia whereas Real Sociedad will be up against Levante.
