Justin Steele, a left-handed pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, had to leave his last practice game before opening day after a comebacker hit his left leg on Friday.
The incident happened in the second inning of their Cactus League game against San Francisco when Luis Matos hit a grounder that struck Steele. He was replaced by Jose Romero.
Steele didn’t seem too worried about the injury. He mentioned on social media that he was fine, although he was disappointed that his NCAA Tournament bracket didn’t fare well.
Steele, who is 28 years old, is scheduled to start on opening day against Texas next Thursday. Last year, he had an impressive season with a record of 16-5 and an ERA of 3.06.
