Bayern Munich’s first Bundesliga match could not have been written any better. The 10-time consecutive champions simply thrashed their opponents 6-1. Playing away, they crushed Europa League champions Frankfurt at their home. People expected a tougher competition, but it wasn’t meant to be. With such a performance, Bayern has clearly sent a message to other teams about their intent for this season. Sadio Mane opened his account for his new club and looks razor sharp. Joshua Kimmich opened the scoring for the champions in the 5th minute, and there was no looking back. By the time the first half ended, Bayern was already 5-0 up in the match. As embarrassing as it may sound, it was even more painful to watch as a Frankfurt supporter. However, the second half was more respectful for the home team. At least they managed to score a goal and kept the score at 1-1 for the second half.
Dortmund secured a close win against their fierce rivals, Bayer Leverkusen. Their old guard, Marco Reus, scored the only goal in the match. Overall, both teams had a difficult outing. Leverkusen possessed the majority of the ball away from home but was unable to capitalize on it. The chances created by them were less as compared to Dortmund. In the final minutes of the match, Leverkusen even received a red card in their season opener. Let us have a recap of match day 1 of the Bundesliga.

A very quirky start to Matchday 1 of the Bundesliga saw a lot of goals. Starting with the champions, Bayern Munich, who scored six goals against Frankfurt. The Europa League champions were crushed at home by the German champs. The home fans could not believe what they saw inside the stadium, looked extremely upsetting. The first game of the new season and getting defeated in such a fashion is a nightmare. Frankfurt was not able to handle the pressure Munich created with every attack. The team in red was just too strong to handle for the team in white. The new joinee, Sadio Mane, enjoyed his first outing after leaving Liverpool in the summer. He scored the third goal in this goal fest. By the time both teams exited the tunnel after the end of the first half, the score was already 5-0.
The second half at least looked like an equal affair as the home team managed to score a goal. They also conceded only one goal, a small positive which they can try to take away from the game. Otherwise, the defense of the home team was just horrible, to say the least. RB Leipzig, another formidable team in the league, was able to take a draw against Stuttgart. Their star player, Christopher Nkunku, opened the scoring, and it looked like Leipzig would take the game away quickly. The story had something else written, and Stuttgart equalized in the 31st minute. The game continued in a similar fashion, and no team was able to take any advantage. A rather disappointing start for the Red Bull team.
