Declan Rice was considering a move to a Premier League rival before ultimately choosing to join Arsenal, as revealed in a private message.

Declan Rice initially sought a move to a Premier League rival before eventually joining Arsenal. Arsenal’s pursuit of the league title received a significant boost with their recent 3-1 victory over Liverpool.

Rice has emerged as a key figure for the Gunners since his £105 million transfer from West Ham last summer.

Despite interest from several top Premier League clubs, the England international, who began his career in Chelsea’s youth system, decided to move to north London.

According to former Chelsea assistant manager Jody Morris, Rice’s preference had been a return to Stamford Bridge. Speaking to William Hill and Footy Accumulators’ No Tippy Tappy Football, Morris revealed: “I messaged Declan Rice when I was at Chelsea, and I asked him whether he’d come back, even after being released by the club.

“He was a center-half back then and there were a lot of people who said he shouldn’t have been released when he was, but in hindsight, it was probably the best thing for him considering all the amazing things he went on to do at West Ham.

Declan Rice

“I was always on Frank Lampard’s case saying how unbelievable Rice would be for us when N’Golo Kante kept getting injured, and he wasn’t sure at first, but a month later he was all over him! So, we reached out to Declan on whether he’d want to come back, and he said: ‘I’m a Chelsea fan, of course I would!’

“And from then on, Lampard was speaking to him, and the upstairs members at the club were talking to his parents. In the end, it got put on the backburner in favor of a couple of other signings.”

Morris continued: “It didn’t end up going through, but at the time they were quoting around £60-65 million, so that would’ve been a steal for someone who could have easily been at the club for 10 years.

“For me, Rice is top-drawer, and I’m so excited about the England midfield we have at the minute. Rice has shown his worth in an England shirt and for West Ham and now at Arsenal with a better team, and he’s performing week in, week out.”

Eintracht Frankfurt’s manager Dino Toppmoller extends apology to Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek

Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller has extended an apology to Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek after a decision regarding the midfielder’s role with the club.

Van de Beek’s loan move to Frankfurt from Man United in January has seen limited playing time, with the Dutch midfielder featuring in just three matches since his departure from Old Trafford.

Despite the potential for a permanent transfer for £9.3 million in the summer, Van de Beek was notably omitted from Frankfurt’s Europa Conference League squad for the knockout stages ahead of their fixture against Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise.

Toppmoller expressed regret over the decision to leave Van de Beek out of the squad, acknowledging the player’s limited game time over the past two years.

However, he conveyed confidence in Van de Beek’s abilities and emphasized his belief that the midfielder would make significant contributions to the team in the latter half of the season.

Donny van de Beek

“I told Donny that I was sorry but also what I expected from him now,” Toppmoller stated.

Despite the setback, Van de Beek showcased a positive response to the situation by delivering a goal and two assists in a recent behind-closed-doors friendly, earning praise from Toppmoller for his professionalism and readiness to face the challenge ahead.

“That showed me that he can handle the decision well,” Toppmoller remarked. “He is ready to take on the challenge.”

Van de Beek, who embarked on his second loan spell following his £35 million transfer to Man United from Ajax in 2020, is aiming to rejuvenate his career during his stint in Germany after a limited role at Everton during the 2021/22 campaign.

With 62 matches under his belt for the Red Devils, Van de Beek remains determined to make his mark at Frankfurt.

Arsenal player shared candid discussion with Mikel Arteta amid speculation of leaving Emirates

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has opened up about a pivotal summer conversation he had with Mikel Arteta, which reaffirmed his commitment to the club.

The Brazilian has played a crucial role in Arsenal’s rise from top-four hopefuls to genuine title contenders this season. However, his place in the team was initially threatened with the arrival of Jurrien Timber at the start of the campaign, with Arteta opting for Ben White and Thomas Partey in defense.

After Timber’s unfortunate injury just two games into the season, Gabriel found himself back in the starting lineup alongside William Saliba. Reflecting on the challenging period, Gabriel revealed that a candid discussion with Arteta during the summer convinced him to stay and fight for his place at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta

“It was tough at the beginning when I wasn’t playing. But I understood the coach’s decisions,” Gabriel shared with PA news agency.

“Arteta spoke to me, explained his reasons, and emphasized the importance of staying focused and committed. He knew my value to the team, so I’m delighted to be back and contributing in every game.”

As Arsenal gears up to face West Ham, Gabriel’s return to form comes at an opportune moment for the club, especially following their morale-boosting 3-1 victory over Liverpool. Meanwhile, West Ham enters the fixture on the back of a six-game winless streak, including a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United last Sunday.

Erling Haaland breaks record with two-goal performance in Manchester City’s victory against Everton.

Erling Haaland makes history with a remarkable performance, scoring twice in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Everton.

The Norwegian sensation has rewritten the Premier League record books, tallying an astonishing 51 goals in his first 50 league starts, surpassing any previous player in the league’s history. This achievement follows his extraordinary goal-scoring spree last season, where he notched an incredible 36 goals.

In the showdown against Everton, Haaland’s first goal arrived with Manchester City’s initial shot on target, breaking through Everton’s resilient defense. Despite Everton’s determined resistance throughout the first half and much of the second, Haaland struck in the 71st minute.

Pouncing on a loose clearance at the far post, Haaland dispatched the ball into the net with his weaker right foot, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Later, as Everton pushed forward in search of an equalizer, Haaland capitalized on a counter-attack orchestrated by Kevin de Bruyne.

Erling Haaland

Evading his marker with ease, Haaland calmly slotted the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper to seal the victory. Despite being sidelined due to injury since November, Haaland’s return has been pivotal for Manchester City, with the striker already notching an impressive 16 goals this season.

While the win propelled Manchester City to the top of the table temporarily, Liverpool reclaimed the position with a victory over Burnley. In contrast, Everton’s struggles continue as they find themselves perilously close to the relegation zone.

Jordan’s Remarkable Underdog Journey to the AFC Asian Cup Final Against Host Qatar Defies Precedent

In a tournament renowned for its surprising outcomes, few could have envisioned that by Sunday afternoon, a country ranked 74th in the world, never having qualified for the World Cup and never advancing past the quarterfinals since its debut in 2004, would stand just 90 minutes away from potential glory.

The upcoming clash at the stadium where Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi battled 14 months ago will feature Musa Al-Taamari and Akram Afif vying for victory in the Asian Cup.

While Qatar, the defending champions, weren’t initially considered top favorites for the tournament held on their home turf, their journey back to the Lusail Stadium wasn’t entirely unforeseeable. Similar sentiments could have been expressed about Jordan before the tournament commenced.

Head coach Hussein Ammouta didn’t have a plethora of star power at his disposal, with Al-Taamari being the sole European-based player in the team. Nearly half of Jordan’s $15 million squad valuation, according to Transfermarkt, is attributed to the Montpellier playmaker.

Despite facing financially superior opponents like South Korea, Jordan’s on-field performance didn’t reflect the difference in resources. In a group stage encounter, South Korea required an added time-own goal to salvage a draw against Jordan, showcasing their resilience.

As the tournament progressed, Jordan’s belief soared. Dramatic late goals secured their place in the quarterfinals, where a stout defensive performance against Tajikistan underscored Ammouta’s tactical acumen.

Their rematch with South Korea saw them deliver an even more impressive defensive display, with a solid backline and effective pressing yielding dividends.

Reflecting on their journey, Al-Taamari emphasized the importance of tactical discipline instilled by their coach, along with the unwavering support from their fans.

Heading into the final against Qatar, Jordan may still be underdogs, but the margin has significantly narrowed since their previous encounter. Their recent friendly victory over the defending champions suggests they are capable of pulling off another upset.

Acknowledging the challenge posed by Qatar, Ammouta emphasized the unity within the team and their determination to surpass expectations.

Regardless of the outcome, Jordan’s remarkable journey in the tournament has already surpassed many expectations, and defeating the hosts on their home turf would only add to their remarkable narrative.

Xabi Alonso has been advised to appoint a Liverpool star as his player-coach if he assumes the role of manager after Jurgen Klopp.

Xabi Alonso has received a recommendation to appoint a Liverpool standout as his player-coach if he steps in for Jürgen Klopp as manager.

Last month, Klopp’s surprising announcement of his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season sent shockwaves through the football world. Having led the Reds to four major trophies, including their first Premier League title in 30 years, Klopp’s legacy looms large.

As speculation swirls around who might fill Klopp’s shoes, Xabi Alonso emerges as a leading contender. With a deep understanding of Liverpool from his illustrious five-year tenure as a player and his recent coaching success, Alonso is seen as an ideal candidate.

Having taken Bayer Leverkusen’s reins in 2022, Alonso has steered the club to Bundesliga title contention this season. With Leverkusen currently leading the league table, Alonso’s managerial prowess is undeniable.

Xabi Alonso

While a slew of renowned coaches are linked with the Liverpool job, Alonso remains a favorite. As anticipation mounts for his potential appointment, some fans suggest an unconventional move upon his arrival.

Specifically, there’s a growing sentiment among supporters that Alonso should consider naming his former Spain teammate, Thiago Alcantara, as a player-coach. Despite Thiago’s injury struggles since his arrival at Liverpool in 2020, fans believe his experience and knowledge could make him an asset in a dual role.

While some supporters envision Thiago’s transition to a coaching role positively, others express skepticism. Despite the varying opinions, the notion of Thiago taking on a new responsibility at Liverpool adds an intriguing dimension to the club’s future under Alonso’s potential leadership.

Mesut Ozil suggests that the forthcoming introduction of the blue card in football will spell trouble for a specific club.

Former Arsenal star Mesut Özil has weighed in on the potential impact of the introduction of blue cards in football, offering a prediction on which team could face significant challenges.

The decision by football’s lawmakers IFAB to introduce blue cards marks a significant change in refereeing protocol, with the traditional yellow and red cards being joined by this new addition.

Blue cards will be utilized to penalize players for cynical fouls aimed at halting promising attacks or for dissent toward match officials, requiring the offending player to spend 10 minutes in a sin-bin, similar to rugby.

While the FA Cup has been identified as a potential testing ground for this new system, lower-tier competitions are expected to be the initial focus before a potential global rollout if successful.

Former Germany international Mesut Özil, known for his creativity on the pitch and now retired from professional football, offered his thoughts on which team might struggle with the new rules.

Mesut Ozil

He humorously aimed a jab at Atlético Madrid, suggesting they might find themselves with significantly reduced numbers on the field due to blue cards. Taking to social media, Ozil quipped, “So Atlético Madrid will only play with 6 players then?”

Ozil’s comment likely alludes to Atlético Madrid’s reputation for tactical fouling and gamesmanship, traits that could potentially see them fall afoul of the new blue card system.

The new protocol emphasizes harsher punishment for fouls intended to thwart counterattacks, a strategy often employed by teams like Atlético. For instance, instances where a player deliberately fouls to stop a counterattack, as seen in the Euro 2020 final between Italy and England, will now be subject to more severe penalties.

While UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has expressed reservations about the sin-bin system, the implementation of blue cards seems imminent, signaling a significant shift in football’s disciplinary procedures.

Gareth Southgate suggests the possibility of Kobbie Mainoo featuring in an alternate position for England.

Gareth Southgate has hinted at a potential positional change for Kobbie Mainoo as he eyes a call-up for the England national team.

Mainoo, who has been making waves at Manchester United since his breakthrough into the first team last year, showcased his talent with a dramatic winning goal against Wolves in a recent Premier League match.

Southgate has been closely monitoring the 18-year-old’s progress and is considering him for an England call-up, despite Mainoo not yet representing the senior squad.

While Mainoo has primarily played as a defensive midfielder, Southgate suggested that he might utilize him in a different role, possibly as a No.8, owing to his dynamic playing style.

“He’s doing brilliantly,” Southgate commented to TNT Sports. “I’m not certain he’s necessarily going to be a defensive midfielder, as such. He’s quite a progressive player but he’s had a fabulous start to his career, and it will be good to monitor him as we go forward.”

Gareth Southgate

With 13 appearances and two goals in all competitions this season, Mainoo has quickly become a pivotal figure under manager Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. Fans have even begun to clamor for his inclusion in England’s squad for Euro 2024, where he could potentially join forces with midfield talents like Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.

As England prepares for the upcoming tournament in Germany, Mainoo may get the chance to feature in friendlies scheduled in the coming months against strong opponents like Brazil and Belgium, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina in June.

The England squad, which was drawn into a group with Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia for the Nations League, anticipates a promising campaign ahead.

Former Manchester United teammate criticizes Gary Neville for assertion regarding pivotal moment in club’s history

Gary Neville has been challenged by a former teammate regarding his account of how the Stone Roses’ “This Is The One” became the anthem for Manchester United.

Neville recently shared his version of events, claiming a central role in selecting the song as the club’s anthem, a narrative backed by Old Trafford announcer Alan Keegan. However, Brian McClair, another former United player, contested Neville’s version, suggesting that his influence was less significant than portrayed.

In a new Adidas promotion for United, Neville recounted his perspective, expressing his desire for a Manchester-based song and his admiration for the Stone Roses’ impact on the city.

Gary Neville

He described the emotional resonance of the song at Old Trafford and its enduring connection to the club.

Contrary to Neville’s account, McClair, who played for United in the late 1980s and 1990s, disputed the story, dismissing it as a product of imagination. He recounted a different scenario where he chose the Stone Roses’ tune after a disagreement with manager Sir Alex Ferguson over the match day anthem.

McClair’s version of events, previously shared on his podcast, highlights the significance he attributes to the decision, labeling it as one of the best accomplishments of his career.
