UEFA is planning to cap seven broadcast nights in a 12-day period of exclusive European teams playing knockout soccer and the final on August 23, 2020.
After the global Pandemic of coronavirus which has changed the global sports calendar, it’s now on UEFA’s executives and panel to decide and take series of quick decisions to reschedule the entire time table for the international soccer, European clubs, and national teams.
The most precious soccer final was initially to be held on May 30, Saturday at Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. However, UEFA has to look for some other location as Istanbul was no longer practical. The finals now would be played in Benfica’s Stadium of Light in Lisbon.
On Aug 18th and Aug 19th, 2020 semi-finals would be held in the Stadium of Light along with the home stadium of Sporting Lisbon. Quarterfinals are planned to be played consecutively in the nights from August 12th to August 15th.
The UEFA panel is yet to decide on the second leg games in the round of 16 which got delayed and were originally scheduled in March. They have to decide on that by Wednesday.
News is that the arrangements are being planned, and possibilities that this time the games will be played in the home stadiums of Barcelona, Munich, Juventus, and Manchester.
Unfortunately, these matches might be played without fans for precautionary reasons.
Four teams, the Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, Atalanta, and Atletico Madrid have already advanced to the quarter-finals.
The second-tier competition was also stopped at the round of 16 in March.
Originally Istanbul was set to host the Champions League final 2020, but due to COVID 19, the same got delayed. Now Turkey will host the league in 2021.
So, being hopeful for a successful arrangement is the main option for fans for now.
