Chennai faced their second loss of the season against Delhi Capitals on 25th September. It seems like this season of IPL is not going so well for Chennai. Usually, they always try to win their initial matches of the tournament and grab as many points as possible. However, this year things have not gone Chennai’s way. After their win against Mumbai Indians on the first matchday, they have lost both their games, which were against Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. Rajasthan Royals gave them a target of 217, but Chennai could reach only 200 runs and lost the game by 16 runs. Speaking of Delhi Capitals, it was their second match of the season. They won their first match against Kings XI Punjab. The game went to super over where Delhi earned a comfortable win after an excellent over by Kagiso Rabada, who took two wickets in the Super and gave only two runs. Both the teams had great players, and it was going to be an exciting match.
Match Summary: Delhi Capitals vs. Chennai Super Kings:
Chennai Super Kings were still missing many players from their team like Ambati Rayudu, Imran Tahir, Lungi Ngidi, and Dwayne Bravo. Chennai won the toss, and MS Dhoni elected to bowl first. Delhi took it slow for the powerplay overs and did not look to hit big. However, in the middle overs, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan started going for big shots. Chennai had only five bowlers in the team and had to use all of them. Prithvi Shaw took full advantage of both the spinners and scored 64 runs in 43 balls before getting stumped by MS Dhoni. Jadeja turned out to be the most expensive bowler for Chennai. After an outstanding performance by Dhawan and Pant, Delhi Capitals scored 175 runs in 20 overs. Chennai needed 176 runs to win.
As always, Shane Watson and Murali Vijay opened for Chennai. Even though CSK had a target of 176 runs, they started playing a bit defensively. It was shocking to see such a slow start from the Dhoni-led CSK. Fans were expecting some big knocks in the middle overs. Chennai was going very light on DC as well as losing wickets. Dhoni came in sixth to bat, but it was too late to win the game or even have the hopes to win. It was one of the worst performances from CSK, where they ended up scoring only 131 runs at a loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Prithvi Shaw was awarded the Man of the Match award for his extra-ordinary innings. After losing two games consecutively, it will be tough for CSK to get back on their feet where Delhi Capitals are in the first position of the points table.
