No. 5 Mississippi is set to host Georgia Southern, which is expected to be another lopsided matchup before they start SEC competition

This is the current situation of Lane Kiffin’s program at Mississippi.

The fifth-ranked Rebels decisively defeated Wake Forest on the road with a score of 40-6, but they left the game thinking about how they could have performed even better. Kiffin believes his players understand they “can be a very special team” if they fix the small issues before they become serious problems.

“There certainly were days when you wouldn’t be finding issues with 34-point road ACC wins,” Kiffin said. “You’d just be happy to win.”

These times are different for the Rebels (3-0), who are finishing a relatively easy nonconference schedule.

Ole Miss will have its final warm-up for Southeastern Conference games on Saturday night against Georgia Southern (2-1), which is a 34.5-point underdog, according to Betmgm.com.

Ole Miss has easily handled its first three opponents, outscoring them 168-9 and leading the nation in total offense. After this, they will face Kentucky in their SEC opener. But first, they aim to take another step toward bigger games and goals.

“It just shows a good standard of the expectations of how to play,” Kiffin said. “And there are internal expectations of the process, not just the outcome of the game. But playing really well because you’re going to need to as the opponents improve.”
