What The Movie Gets Right & Changes

The team journey and Gerry Bertier’s accident to becoming state champions under the leadership of Herman Boone did happen, and these moments are the most important that takes place in the film. However, much of what happens in Remember the Titans was fictionalized for dramatic purposes. There were many moments in the films that showed how bad racism was in that era and how it affected everyone on the team. In one of the scenes from the movie, a restaurant doesn’t want to give service to two of the players. Moreover, this scene was made up for the movie, as were many other scenes, like in the beginning, the group of protesters. As Boone and others on the team have pointed out, Remember the Titans exaggerated the players’ racial tension.

This movie shows that the team players are dealing with racism themself as a team; mostly blacks and whites are struggling While forced to play together, they must reconcile their racial differences. But the real-life players and the coaches have mentioned that racism was not the main obstacle for the players, a player with these issues would have been cut from the team before their first game.

There were many other changes as well in Remember the titans; it was a toilet- not a brick- that was thrown through the window of the real Herman Boone. The kiss scene between Sunshine(Kip Pardue) and Gerry and also the song and the dance routine was added for the sake of the story. Some of the characters and people in their lives, such as Kate Bosworth’s Emma Hoyt, were also made up. Furthermore, the real-life state championship game was a blowout, so the film uses an earlier, much closer game as the state championship instead. While this movie is truly based on a true story, some of the memorable scenes were made for entertainment purposes.
