Exeter Chief has now officially Exeter Rugby club is a very popular English Rugby Union Club. They could manage to win many of the championships in various leagues till now.

Recently, Exeter Rugby Club has been through an internal review process regarding their logo and brand. There were some controversies regarding the branding stating that it is offensive, harmful, and racist.

As rugby premiership has already started and in the middle of all these controversies, the Gallagher Premiership Club’s board has arranged a meeting on last Wednesday on 29th July for the concerns related to the respective club’s branding.

After the board meeting on Wednesday, a statement has been released from Exeter that they will keep the Chief’s branding while leaving the mascot behind. The Board has also considered that the use of the Chief logo alone is highly respectful.

Exeter Rugby has explained in their statement that there have been multiple players and coaches from around the world with different range of nationalities and cultures who have joined the club over the years.

The Players, Coaches, and their family members have respect for the branding and the culture in the club. The Club’s mascot Big chief seems to be disrespectful, so the club has decided to retire the mascot to uplift the respect again.

The Campaigners are disappointed with the Club’s decision to retire the Mascot. Indigenous people took it in an offensive way of using their imagination in the logos and brand and they have showered their negative comments about it multiple times.

As per the Club, they did not mean to hurt anyone’s culture and it was towards positive growth together as a team and culture. But the club never gave a hearing to the Indigenous people. Due to which Fans are too much disappointed and they think that how can a great sports club can treat people like that. It has hit badly to the Rugby team as well.

There are currently 3 petitions for a change in Exeter Chief Rigby team and almost 3,500 signatures are there till now.

The decision of the club is not going so well. They will eventually need to change the branding. As it does not comply with the deal properly and it will damage the reputation of the cub and there would be a commercial loss too.

Many logos which hurts civilised society has been used in 20 of the clubs from the last 150 years. It happened due to the ignorance and lack of knowledge. Recently NFL’s Washington franchise had made an announcement early this month that they will change their team name from “ Redskins” to “Washington Football Team” and in meanwhile they will search for a proper nickname.

Let’s see how Exeter Rugby club will deal with the issue of whether they are going to keep the logo or all the petitions against them are going to make them change it entirely, Again!

Stay tuned with us for another great news like this.
