Linebacker Jamin Davis has joined the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad just a week after being let go by the Washington Commanders, where he was a first-round draft pick in 2021.

The Packers announced on Tuesday that they had signed Davis to their practice squad and had released linebacker Chris Russell from the squad.

Washington picked Davis from Kentucky with the 19th overall pick in the 2021 draft.

He started 36 games for the Commanders from 2021 to 2023, but his playing time decreased this season as Washington brought in a new general manager, Adam Peters, and coach, Dan Quinn.

Davis, who is 25, made 13 tackles in five games before his release on October 22. The Commanders had attempted to move him to the defensive end.

Davis had his best season in 2022, recording 104 tackles. He also had three sacks in both 2022 and 2023.
