Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun have both reached agreements on contract extensions with the Houston Rockets, according to a source who spoke on Monday.
Green, the second overall pick in the 2021 draft, has signed a three-year extension worth $106 million. Sengun, who was selected 16th in the same draft, has agreed to a five-year extension valued at $185 million.
The source confirmed the details of the agreements to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity since the deals have not yet been officially announced. ESPN was the first to report both agreements.
Both players are entering the last seasons of their rookie contracts. Green’s new deal will start next season and includes a player option for the third year, which allows him to opt out of the contract before the 2027-28 season and become a free agent.
Sengun’s extension will also begin next season and has a player option for the fifth season in 2029-30.
Last season, Green played all 82 games and averaged 19.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, helping the Rockets improve by 19 games from the previous season. He has made 545 three-pointers, including a career-high 201 last season.
The 22-year-old Green was drafted at 19 after spending one season with the G League Ignite.
As a rookie, he averaged 17.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. In his second season, Green posted a career-best average of 22.1 points in 2022-23.
Sengun had a breakout season last year, averaging 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and five assists, all career highs, in 63 games. He missed the end of the season due to a severely sprained ankle.
The Turkish center averaged 14.8 points and nine assists in the 2022-23 season, up from 9.6 points and 5.5 rebounds as a rookie.
