Match Summary: India vs England:

Day 1:

Australia 1st Innings:

Day 1 began as England won the toss and opted to bat first. Joe Root knew that the pitch conditions were extremely good for batting first and wanted to get the most runs out of the wicket in their first innings itself. So, Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley opened the innings for England. They got their side off to a great start but in the 23rd over, Burns (33 in 60) got out. Then came Daniel Lawrence (0 in 5) who got out just 2 overs after Burns’ dismissal. Consequently, England were now under pressure.

However, then came their skipper Joe Root (128* in 197) who played a fantastic knock to guide his team to a good score. He built a 200-run partnership with Sibley (87 in 286) before the latter got out in the 90th over i.e. the last over of the day. Even then, they had managed to get England’s score to 263-3 at the end of Day 1.

Day 2:

Australia 1st Innings:

Day 2 began as Joe Root and Ben Stokes came to the crease to continue batting for the visitors. The duo was in sensational form as they dominated the Indian spinners brilliantly. India tried all possible combinations but couldn’t dismiss either of the two batsmen. Finally, in the 127th over, Ben Stokes got out. However, he had done his job as he smashed 82 runs in just 118 balls. Then, Ollie Pope came in at 6 and was building a partnership with Root. But, the former soon got out in the 153rd over, after scoring 34 runs in 89 balls. In the very next over, Root (218 in 377) also lost his wicket to Nadeem after scoring a glorious double-ton.

In the same over on the next ball, Ishant also dismissed Jofra Archer (0 in 1) with his brilliant bowling. Finally, the day ended as Dominic Bess (28 in 84) and Jack Leach (6 in 28) were on the crease. They managed to get England to a total of 555-5 in 180 overs at the end of Day 2.
