Justin Fields has been ruled inactive for the Monday night game against the New York Giants and will serve as the emergency third quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was added to the injury report on Sunday due to a hamstring issue, which led to his questionable status for the game. Although he participated fully in practice throughout the week leading up to the matchup, the decision to keep him out reflects caution regarding his injury.

Prior to kickoff, Fields was seen throwing warmup passes on the field at Acrisure Stadium, taking the field after both Russell Wilson and Kyle Allen. This involvement during warmups indicated that he was still physically capable, but ultimately, the Steelers opted to rest him. With Fields unavailable, Kyle Allen has been designated as Wilson’s primary backup for the game against the Giants.

Russell Wilson is set to make his second start of the season, having returned from a calf injury that sidelined him for the first six weeks. During Wilson’s absence, Fields filled in as the starting quarterback, leading the team to a commendable 4-2 record. His performance during that stretch showcased his ability to manage the team effectively, but Wilson’s return brought a renewed dynamism to the Steelers’ passing attack.

In his season debut against the New York Jets, Wilson made an impressive return, throwing for 245 yards, achieving two touchdowns, and scoring a rushing touchdown himself. This performance not only set a franchise record for passing yards in a debut but also highlighted Wilson’s impact on the offense. With Fields out, the Steelers will rely on Wilson and Allen to drive the team’s offensive strategy as they face off against the Giants.
