Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice’s knee injury remains under evaluation, with no clear diagnosis yet, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Initial fears suggested that Rice might have torn his right ACL, prompting the team to consult doctors and seek a second opinion. However, additional tests will be needed to determine the severity of the injury, and answers regarding his recovery may not be available until next week.
The injury occurred during the Chiefs’ win against the Los Angeles Chargers when Rice collided with quarterback Patrick Mahomes while both were pursuing a fumble recovery after an interception. The collision impacted both of Rice’s knees, with his right knee appearing to hyperextend. He was assisted off the field, underwent a sideline examination, and was later taken to the locker room by cart.
Rice, who has been ruled out for the Chiefs’ upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints, had been a standout performer for Kansas City. He entered Week 4 leading the league with 24 receptions and ranking second with 288 receiving yards. His absence will leave a significant void in the Chiefs’ offense, which has relied on his contributions this season.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the impact of Rice’s injury, stating that the team will adjust by spreading the ball around to all receivers. Rather than placing the burden on rookie Xavier Worthy to compensate for Rice’s production, Reid plans to utilize the entire receiving corps to maintain offensive balance in upcoming games.
