Manchester United Stun Paris Saint-Germain Again As Rashford Scores Late Winning Goal
Manchester United stunned PSG in the first match of Champions League group stage with a late goal from Marcus Rashford.
The UEFA Champions League is back. Each and every football fan is very excited and is ready to support and cheer for their team. The draws for the group stage happened on 1st October and there are some exciting groups formed this season. The most exciting one is Barcelona and Juventus being in the same group. The fans cannot wait to see Messi go up against Ronaldo once again. One more group that caught everybody’s attention is Group H. It consists of Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, RB Leipzig, and Istanbul Basaksehir.
RB Leipzig and Istanbul are also great teams but Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have a history where United kicked Paris out of the Champions League in 2018 after a historic 3-1 comeback in the second leg of the Round of 16. PSG fans were looking forward to this fixture as they were expecting revenge. Manchester United have not exactly been in great form this season in the Premier League. Both the teams were going to face each other again on 20th October. It was going to be a very intense and interesting fixture. So, let us see what happened.
Match Summary: Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester United:
PSG was missing some players from their squad like Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes, and Julian Draxler. Even though Marquinhos was included in the substitutes, his chances of playing were almost null as he was at an injury risk. Manchester United on the other hand did not include Edinson Cavani to their squad who had just signed for them from PSG itself. Jesse Lingard was also left out of the squad. The match kicked off and the game started. Paris Saint-Germain were having a great possession of the ball but they were not a threat as they were not trying to attack that much. Manchester United on the other hand were handling the situation calmly and were avoiding any mistakes from their side.
In the 20th minute, Martial won a penalty for the team after he was brought to the ground by Abdou Diallo. The decision was a little controversial as it did not look like a foul that deserved a penalty but the referee’s decision is the only thing that matters. Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take the penalty and was denied by Keylor Navas at first. However, after checking in VAR, Navas was seen stepping out of the line before Bruno took the penalty. Hence, Bruno got another chance to take the penalty. This time Fernandes scored to give a 1-goal lead to his team. That was the only goal of the first half.
The second half began and just 10 minutes later Martial scored an own goal. A corner kick from Neymar was converted by Martial into his own net. The score was 1-1 and the game got even more interesting now. Both the teams had pretty good chances but Rashford could not take advantage of any counter-attacks and attempts from Kurzawa had hit the post. The goalkeepers from both sides did a great job and made some pretty important saves for their team. However, just like 2 years ago, Rashford again scored a late goal into the bottom left corner of the net from outside the box. This was the winning goal and PSG had to face the nightmare again at the Parc des Princes. Now, both the teams will meet again on 3rd December, but this time at Old Trafford.
