Adley Rutschman’s two-run homer in the ninth inning helped Baltimore secure a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, preventing the Orioles from being swept once again.

The Orioles and the Blue Jays split the two-game series, as the game on Tuesday was called off due to rain. Baltimore has now gone 105 consecutive regular-season series with at least two games without being swept, which is tied for the third-longest streak in MLB history.

Although the Orioles were swept in last year’s AL Division Series by Texas, the last time they were swept in the regular season was from May 13-15, 2022, against Detroit.

The streak nearly ended exactly two years later, but after an infield single by Jordan Westburg, Isiah Kiner-Falefa made a defensive error, and then Rutschman hit a home run off Jordan Romano.

“I think it says a lot about our team,” Rutschman said. “It’s always guys just picking each other up and continuing to progress, and just have each other’s backs. It’s a fun group to be a part of.”

Rutschman’s homer was reviewed, as it appeared to deflect off a fan reaching out above the right field wall, but the ruling stood. Romano (1-1) suffered his first blown save in seven chances this year.
