Toronto Blue Jays vs Seattle Mariners

Bo Bichette hit a two-run home run, and Chris Bassitt pitched impressively for 6 2/3 innings to earn his first victory in three starts this season as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-3 on Tuesday night.

Isaiah Kiner-Falefa contributed with three hits and an RBI, Cavan Biggio reached base three times, and George Springer drove in two runs as Toronto secured back-to-back wins for the first time.

When the Blue Jays hit home runs, they have a 5-2 record this season, and they are 4-1 when they have more hits than their opponent. Toronto recorded 11 hits compared to Seattle’s six.

Mitch Haniger hit a two-run homer, and Dominic Canzone added a solo shot for the Mariners. Seattle has lost three consecutive games and six of their last seven. Their road trip has been disappointing, with a 1-4 record, which concludes on Wednesday.

Seattle’s George Kirby (1-2) endured a tough outing, allowing five runs and eight hits in four innings, marking his second consecutive loss. He struggled with control, walking none but seeing his ERA rise from 5.23 to 6.91.

Kirby, who hadn’t pitched past the fourth inning in his last two outings, expressed frustration with his performance.

Bo Bichette, despite grounding into a double play in the first inning, redeemed himself with a two-run homer in the third inning, his first of the season, extending into the second deck in left field.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider praised Bichette’s hitting prowess, acknowledging him as one of the league’s best hitters.

Chris Bassitt (1-2) delivered an impressive performance, allowing just one run and five hits over his 6 2/3 innings of work. He walked three batters but also struck out a season-high eight. Bassitt attributed his success to mixing up his pitches against a tough Mariners lineup.
