Brandon Pfaadt had a strong outing, outperforming Max Fried over six solid innings, while Jake McCarthy’s impressive catch at the wall in the ninth helped secure a 1-0 victory for the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.

Pfaadt (4-6) continued his recent form, allowing just three hits and striking out four, earning the win after three consecutive no-decisions.

Fried (7-5) gave up one run on five hits in his six innings, striking out seven and walking three. Eugenio Suarez’s 437-foot home run in the fifth inning was the decisive blow, following his big hit the previous night.

Arizona’s solo homer for a 1-0 home win was the first since September 19, 2011, showcasing a typically gritty performance that manager Torey Lovullo praised as emblematic of the Diamondbacks’ style.

Paul Sewald secured his 13th save with a clean ninth inning, backed by McCarthy’s stellar defensive plays, including a crucial catch at the left-center warning track in the eighth inning.

Both pitchers, Fried and Pfaadt, rebounded from a tough April matchup where they struggled, showing marked improvement in this rematch.
