During the second inning, the Brewers capitalized on the Pirates’ mistakes, including an error, two walks, and two hit batters, along with an RBI single by Contreras, resulting in three runs.
Sal Frelick contributed two hits for Milwaukee, helping them break a two-game losing streak. Bryan Hudson pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn his second win of the season.
Despite a couple of errors in the ninth inning, Joel Payamps secured his fourth save by getting crucial outs when needed.
Bryan Reynolds hit a two-run home run for Pittsburgh, but the Pirates only managed to get four hits against five relief pitchers in a game where the Brewers relied on their bullpen.
Bryse Wilson pitched 4 1/3 innings in his second start of the season. He gave up two runs on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Due to the injuries affecting Milwaukee’s pitching staff, Wilson might transition into a permanent starting role, which he previously had in his career.
“I believe he can be a starter,” said Brewers manager Pat Murphy. “He’s just getting started in that role, and I think he’s very capable. Given our current situation, he’s a good option.”
