Jake Cave delivered a crucial single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, helping the Colorado Rockies secure an 8-7 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.
Brenton Doyle hit two home runs, and Charlie Blackmon also homered on his birthday, supporting Colorado’s efforts to outlast the Brewers.
This win marked the Rockies’ first consecutive victories in a month, highlighted by strong starting pitching, effective relief pitching, timely hitting, and solid defense, according to manager Bud Black.
Milwaukee’s William Contreras had a productive night with three hits, including a home run, falling just a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Willy Adames contributed three hits as well, including an RBI single that fueled a three-run eighth inning, briefly putting the Brewers ahead 7-6.
Doyle’s second home run of the game tied the score at 7-7 in the eighth inning, setting the stage for extra innings. Tyler Kinley earned the win with a scoreless 10th inning, escaping a critical situation by striking out Garrett Mitchell.
Despite the Brewers’ resilience, manager Pat Murphy acknowledged missed opportunities and credited the Rockies for their clutch hitting.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, Aaron Schunk started as the automatic runner at second base. After advancing to third base on a flyout, the Rockies loaded the bases with intentional walks to Doyle and Nolan Jones. Facing a defensive shift with an extra infielder, Jake Cave delivered a decisive single into the outfield, securing the victory with Schunk’s run.
