Dedniel Núñez, a reliever for the New York Mets, will not return this season due to a right flexor injury, as announced by manager Carlos Mendoza before Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The 28-year-old rookie right-hander had a 2.31 ERA in 25 games but has only pitched once since July 23.

Mendoza mentioned that Núñez would receive a PRP injection. In his 35 innings this season, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound pitcher recorded 48 strikeouts and only eight walks, earning one save.

Before Friday’s game, the Mets had won 11 of their last 13 games and were holding the last wild-card spot in the National League.

They began a series of seven games against the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies, who were eight games ahead of the Mets at the start of the night’s play.
