Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins is scheduled for an MRI following a hamstring injury that forced him out of Monday night’s game in the second inning.
Hoskins explained he felt the injury while running to first base after hitting a single to right field during the Brewers’ 8-6 loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Brewers manager Pat Murphy confirmed after the game that Hoskins would undergo an MRI the next day.
“It happened as I was rounding first base,” Hoskins recounted. “I was considering going for a double because of where the ball landed. As I made the turn, I felt it pull.”
Hoskins found some comfort in knowing that this injury affected his right hamstring rather than his left, the leg that kept him sidelined for the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL while playing for the Philadelphia Phillies.
While Murphy refrained from predicting if Hoskins would land on the injured list, he acknowledged the possibility of the veteran missing some games. “Hamstring injuries typically take more than a few days to heal,” Murphy commented.
At 31, Hoskins holds a batting average of .233 with nine home runs, 27 RBIs, and an .814 OPS this season. His recent performance included three home runs in five games, with a go-ahead three-run shot against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.
The former Phillies first baseman joined the Brewers in the offseason after signing a two-year, $34 million contract, which includes an opt-out clause after this season.
