Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Toronto had a single in the first inning, extending his hitting streak to 22 games, tying his career-best streak from 2022. This is the longest active streak in the major leagues.
Guerrero went 1 for 4 and struck out in the ninth inning against Mason Miller, who threw a 103 mph fastball. Miller threw all four of his pitches to Guerrero at 100 mph or faster.
Oakland manager Mark Kotsay noted Miller’s growing confidence and experience in high-pressure situations. Blue Jays manager John Schneider appreciated the quality of Miller’s pitches despite the game being uneventful until then.
Bido (3-3) pitched six innings, allowing just two singles and matching his career-high for innings pitched. He had one walk and five strikeouts, showing strong command of his pitches.
Left-hander Scott Alexander pitched the seventh inning, right-hander Tyler Ferguson took the eighth, and Miller earned his 17th save.
Toronto was shut out for the fifth time this season and has a 15-20 record in one-run games. Shea Langeliers had four hits for the Athletics, who have played seven one-run games in their last 14, winning five of them. Oakland’s record in one-run games this season is 17-19.
