It’s a fresh start for The NFL Today. During his WFAN radio show on Monday, Esiason revealed that he won’t be back on CBS in the fall, marking the end of his 22-year tenure on the pregame program.
He’s also renewed his contract for the morning slot he shares with Craig Carton, which began after Don Imus left in 2007, covering both the radio show and its CBS Sports Network simulcast.
“More their decision than maybe mine,” Esiason remarked, singling out the Super Bowl in Las Vegas as his farewell event.
For The NFL Today, it’s another change in the mix.
Host James Brown is staying, but everyone else’s contracts were up, including Phil Simms, Bill Cowher, and Nate Burleson. J.J. Watt is still under contract, but his appearances were sporadic in 2023.
More updates are expected soon, especially with the annual upfronts for advertisers just around the corner. By then, most lineups for the upcoming season should be finalized.
The NFL Today has been around since the ‘70s and was once a must-watch. However, with many alternatives for Sunday morning or early afternoon analysis, traditional pregame shows don’t have the same impact they used to.
