The Cleveland Browns are set to undergo changes to their offensive coaching staff for the 2025 season. Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed on Sunday morning that the team has parted ways with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and offensive line coach Andy Dickerson.

Stefanski expressed appreciation for both coaches, highlighting their hard work but noted that the team would be moving in a different direction to improve their offensive performance. These coaching changes come after a disappointing 2024 season for the Browns.

Stefanski Faces Offensive Struggles with Line Instability, Quarterback Changes, and Underperformance in 2024

The Browns faced numerous challenges during the 2024 season, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. The team struggled to find consistency in the offensive line, starting eight different combinations throughout the season, including seven in the first eight games.

Additionally, the quarterback position saw constant changes, with four different players starting over the course of the season. Deshaun Watson began the season but was sidelined due to a season-ending Achilles injury. Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Bailey Zappe all took turns at quarterback without significant success, contributing to the Browns’ offensive struggles.

Despite the changes, the Browns’ offense failed to improve significantly. In an effort to address the struggles, Stefanski made a midseason decision to have Dorsey take over the play-calling duties starting in Week 8. However, the offensive issues continued throughout the remainder of the season.

The Browns finished last in total points, averaging just 15.2 points per game. Their rushing game ranked 28th in the league with an average of 94.6 yards per game, and their passing offense ranked 20th. Stefanski acknowledged the need for improvement in several areas of the offense, noting that it was not just about improving the running game but addressing the overall offensive execution.

Stefanski Moves on from Dorsey, Initiates Search for New Offensive Coordinator and Improvements

Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, Stefanski made the decision to move on from Dorsey, citing the need for improvement on the offensive side of the ball. Stefanski emphasized that the responsibility for the offensive struggles was shared by everyone in the organization, not just individual coaches.

The Browns have already begun the search for a new offensive coordinator, with Stefanski indicating that he will consider both internal and external candidates. He remains open-minded about the candidate’s experience with play calling, acknowledging that it is not a strict requirement. Stefanski expressed confidence in the talent on the roster and his belief that the team can achieve offensive success in 2025.

As part of their search for a new offensive coordinator, Stefanski is also considering the possibility of adding a separate quarterbacks coach, a role previously filled by Dorsey. Stefanski highlighted that this decision is still being worked through. Ultimately, the main objective for the Browns’ coaching staff is to improve and address the challenges faced during the 2024 season.

After a strong 2023 season that saw the Browns reach the playoffs with an 11-6 record, the 2024 campaign was a sharp disappointment with a 3-14 finish. Stefanski is focused on finding solutions to the offensive problems and ensuring the team is better equipped for success in 2025.
