Head Coach Antonio Pierce has announced that Gardner Minshew II will be the starting quarterback for the Raiders in the 2024 season. Pierce, along with Tom Telesco and Luke Getsy, emphasized that the decision was influenced by a range of factors, not just recent performances.

They believe that Minshew’s skills will provide the team with the best opportunity for a successful start to the season.

Minshew’s preseason performance, while limited to two games (one as a starter), includes 16 completions on 33 attempts for 212 yards and one touchdown. This demonstrates his capability and readiness for the upcoming season.

Joining the Raiders this offseason, Minshew brings a solid track record from his previous team, the Colts. In the 2023 season, he was selected for the Pro Bowl after participating in all 17 games and starting 13. He finished the season with 3,305 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, and added 100 rushing yards with three rushing touchdowns.

Minshew was originally drafted by the Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. His career has steadily progressed, leading to his current role with the Raiders as he prepares for his sixth NFL season.
