As the team was supposed to return for their training on Tuesday after the week off hence, they were tested at their houses on Monday. Out of all the Spanish football players Mariano Diaz, 26, tested positive for Covid-19.
He is currently under isolation at his own house.
As far as we know he did not come into any close contact with any other team member so far. However, while being unaware of having caught by a virus, during his holiday in Marbella, Spain he might have been in contact with a lot of people.
Reportedly after 3 consecutive years, the team was on the first break since July 19 given by their coach Zinedine Zidane after their last league game of the campaign at Leganes.
“Spain had been one of the countries with the highest Covid-19 death toll per capita with an estimate of more than 2 million citizens being infected. Although their health care system stands in the top 10 across the world, still the current pandemic became the worst stressor ever for the country. We hope the situation gets better soon with the second expected lockdown.”
Mariano interacted with his followers on Instagram on Tuesday to thank them for their wishes, prayers, and support. He mentioned that he is currently at home, following all health protocols, and is feeling well at the moment.
He also mentioned that his family is in good health condition as well. Madrid’s Champions League round of 16 return leg is scheduled to begin from August 7th, 2020 in Manchester City.
As per the statements from officials the team is scheduled to be tested every week during the championship in order to avoid any further spread. Considering the Covid-19 report of Mariano he will have to miss the August 8th tie at the Etihad stadium. Apart from Mariano not playing, most likely there will be no other changes made to the championship as per the statement made by UEFA.
Since Diaz has always been considered to be an asset for the Spanish team, a player who is capable of adding a score to the board from any part of the pitch, his absence during the league could give an advantage to Manchester.
After making his senior debut for Badalona in 2011, Mariano reached the national team by 2013 in a friendly play against Haiti. Eventually, he returned to Real Madrid after voluntarily retiring from National Team, and was signed by Real Madrid for a 5-year contract beginning August 29, 2018.
With his 27th birthday round the corner on August 1st, we wish him a speedy recovery and a life full of great success, health, and happiness.
