Mirabai Chanu became the first to secure a gold medal for India at the ongoing CWG in Birmingham. She retains her crown from winning gold in the 48kg category in the 2018 Gold Coast event. Moreover, she won the silver medal in the 2014 CWG in Glasgow. Besides, Chanu also broke the Games record in her run to glory at the 2022 CWG.

Chanu lifted 88kgs in the snatch round, which gave her a 12 kg lead over her nearest opponent. Furthermore, she followed it up with a clean and jerk round tournament record of 113kgs. Eventually, Mirabai Chanu got her CWG gold, finishing 29kgs ahead of silver medalist Marie Ranaivosoa. Soon after, the 27-year-old earned plenty of plaudits for her milestone achievements. Notably, she was also the first Indian to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year. Her silver medal display was one of the few bright sparks at the megaevent for India. The golden lady has already set her sights on lifting 90kgs in Snatch. India will surely have high expectations of the record-breaker at the Paris Olympics come 2024.
