Three important players from the Cowboys’ 2022 draft class are ready to sign extensions. Tight end Jake Ferguson, the fourth-round pick, and cornerback DaRon Bland, the fifth-round pick, are heading into the last year of their rookie contracts.

As mentioned several times before, extending Parsons would actually lower his salary cap hit for 2025.

Even though he has played for three seasons, he will turn 24 next month. He’s the ideal player to be the foundation of the offensive line now that Zack Martin has retired, just like they did with Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, and Martin before him.

At the end of last season, Smith appeared ready to take on the challenge of being the leader of the offensive line.

“In my mind, I think it just starts with maintaining that standard,” Smith said. “When I got here, from the film room to walkthroughs, I’ve seen how Tyron and Zack practice.

I’ve seen how they study. I have thought about how I can be the best leader I can be. How can I continue to improve the standard that they’ve set before me? It is something that I take to heart every day.”

Bland was an All-Pro in 2023 when he led the league with nine interceptions and set an NFL record for most returns for a touchdown in a season with five. Ferguson was a Pro Bowl injury replacement in 2023 after catching 71 passes for 761 yards and five touchdowns.

Injuries affected the 2024 seasons for both Ferguson and Bland

Bland missed 10 games after having surgery for a stress fracture in his left foot. After intercepting 14 passes in his first two seasons, he didn’t intercept any in seven games last season. Just as he was getting close to being fully healthy after a sprained MCL in his left knee in the season opener, he got a concussion in the 10th game, missing two more games.

Giving a player an extension before the final season of his contract was how the Cowboys used to operate, though it feels like a long time ago. With Parsons, the Cowboys can control his contract until 2028 if they use the franchise tag. Parsons has said he wants to be a Cowboy for life. The Cowboys have stated their goal is to sign Parsons for the long term. Maybe they’ll reach that agreement sooner than many expect.

While the 2024 season was largely a disappointment, marked by poor planning, execution, and health issues, there were still some standout performances by the Cowboys.

Aside from stars like edge rusher Micah Parsons and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, here are five players who impressed for Dallas:

KaVontae Turpin, receiver/returner

When the NFL introduced new kickoff return rules in 2024, the Cowboys knew Turpin would be a valuable asset. He averaged 33.5 yards per kick return, the best in Cowboys history and the second-best in the NFL since the 1970 merger.

His Week 12 touchdown return against the Washington Commanders, after bobbling the ball at the goal line and spinning to gain space, was the Cowboys’ play of the year. He also returned a 60-yard punt for a touchdown, becoming one of the few players in Cowboys history to score a rushing touchdown, receiving touchdown, punt return touchdown, and kick return touchdown in their career.

Turpin was named a first-team All-Pro and was selected for the Pro Bowl Games for the second time in three years.

The Cowboys will have a decision to make regarding Turpin this offseason as he’s set to become a restricted free agent. To keep him, they will likely have to offer him a second-round tender, which is expected to be around $5 million, to prevent other teams from signing him.

Brandon Aubrey, kicker

In his second year in the league, Aubrey was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time.

He made 40 of 47 field goal attempts in 2024, though five misses were from long distances—51, 70, and 61 yards (the 61-yard attempt hit the upright). Two others were blocked. Aubrey also made a 65-yard field goal, the second-longest in NFL history, just behind Justin Tucker’s 66-yard attempt.

He set a record by making 14 field goals from 50 yards or more in a season, the most by any kicker in NFL history. He’s the first kicker to make 10 or more field goals of 50+ yards in multiple seasons.

Aubrey has been a key player for an offense that struggled to score touchdowns, and his strong leg helps the team with kickoffs, as he can place the ball in the corners or boot it out of the end zone.

Rico Dowdle, running back

It took the Cowboys some time to give Dowdle the starting role, but once he had the opportunity, he delivered, finishing the season with 1,079 rushing yards. He ended the season with four 100-yard games in the last six weeks.

His success coincided with improvements in the Cowboys’ offensive line play, but there are concerns about his ability to break long runs. He had 25 carries of 10 yards or more but only two runs of 20 yards or more.

Dowdle will be an unrestricted free agent in March, and the draft features many top running back prospects, which could impact the Cowboys’ decision on whether to re-sign him.

However, in his 13th game, he tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL in his right knee, putting his availability for part of the 2025 season in question.

Before his injury, the Cowboys had a promising playmaker who could pair with Micah Parsons in the front seven, but now his future is uncertain.

Jourdan Lewis, cornerback

Lewis was a steady presence in the secondary, missing only one game. Trevon Diggs missed the final four games due to knee surgery, and DaRon Bland missed the first 10 games after left foot surgery.

Lewis finished with 78 tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, three pressures, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, and five pass deflections. He played 79% of the defensive snaps, earning the trust of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who valued Lewis’ tough play and his ability to help in the run game.

Out of the Cowboys’ 22 unrestricted free agents, keeping Lewis is a priority.

Saleh, 45, most recently worked as an offensive consultant for the Green Bay Packers after being fired by the Jets on October 8, following a 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5. During his time as the Jets’ head coach, Saleh led the team for three full seasons and five games, finishing with a 20-36 record.

However, the Cowboys are not the only team interested in Saleh’s coaching abilities. He also interviewed for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching position on January 14 and is expected to meet with the Las Vegas Raiders for their own head coaching job. Furthermore, Saleh interviewed for the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator role on January 9, a position he previously held before becoming the Jets’ head coach.

After that, he became the linebackers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2014 to 2016, before moving to the 49ers as defensive coordinator in 2017. In total, 2025 will mark Saleh’s 20th season in the NFL.

“I don’t know what the coaching is going to be like,” Parsons said. “I would love to have Zimmer back. I kind of publicly, consistently say that, what he’s done for this team, through the injuries and everything. He’s done a tremendous job for me. If they do change … I’ve got to learn a new scheme. I’ve got to be around guys.”

Parsons isn’t focused on money because he feels he has already shown his value. Even with missing games for the first time in his career, he is just 1.5 sacks away from reaching double digits in sacks for each of his first four seasons. The only other players to do that are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“I think I’m the best player in the world,” said Parsons, who has 49 career sacks. “I don’t throw numbers out there like that. I’ll see what they’re willing to give me.”

Parsons has 7.5 sacks in six games since returning from injury, but he doesn’t think finishing strong will greatly affect his contract talks after the season.

“I think I’m a difference-maker, and I’ll probably be treated like a difference-maker,” Parsons said. “I don’t think these next three weeks I’m going to gain $20 million. I think I’m pretty much capped.”

The salary cap will be a consideration for Parsons as he looks ahead to his big payday.

San Francisco edge rusher Nick Bosa currently holds the highest average annual value for a defensive player at $34 million. Bosa signed a five-year, $170 million extension last year.

“It would be nice to be surrounded by good players. Players that will help me win championships,” Parsons said. “To me, having $40 million and being chipped every play and slid into 3-4 people, that doesn’t sound too fun to me. On Sunday, the 31-year-old Rush threw a career-high three touchdown passes, and Rico Dowdle set a new career high in rushing for the third week in a row as the Cowboys defeated the Carolina Panthers 30-14.

Rush has thrown eight touchdown passes in the past four games, including three Dallas wins and a tough 27-20 loss to Cincinnati on Monday night after a special teams mistake led to the Bengals’ winning points.

This stretch is the best of Rush’s nine-year NFL career.

“I think I’m a better player than I was in 2022, for sure,” Rush said. “I think some fundamentals have been cleaned up. I have been around a long time, but getting starts does matter. So that’s important.”

Coach Mike McCarthy praised Rush after Sunday’s game, where he completed 18 of 29 passes for 214 yards and helped the offense gain 410 yards and 24 first downs.

“A lot of poise,” McCarthy said. “He commands the huddle and keeps us in really good plays.”

“He’s just a tough, talented dynamic football player,” McCarthy said. “You can’t find enough ways to get him the ball. The beauty of CeeDee is you can line him in the backfield and give him the ball 10 times. He’s a natural runner with the football. We just have to continue to find ways to get him the ball.”

Lamb said he believes defenders are targeting his shoulder, knowing it has been bothering him. On Sunday, Panthers safety Xavier Woods was penalized for hitting Lamb as he tried to make a catch.

But Lamb said it’s important for him to keep playing through the injury because his teammates are relying on him, even if the playoffs seem out of reach.

“I always have that mentality,” Lamb said. “Obviously, offensively, the guys are looking for me as a spark. So with that, I’m going to continue to do that. And I look at myself as a spark as well. I feel like I can personally score from anywhere on the field no matter how deep. With that being said, I want to be a threat every time I touch it.”

The star pass rusher couldn’t bear to watch the end of the game, so he left the field before the clock hit zero in the Bengals’ 27-20 victory Monday night.

Joe Burrow’s tiebreaking 40-yard touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase with 1:01 left was only possible because the Cowboys touched a blocked punt that would have put them in position to win in the final two minutes.

“Oh, I hurt,” Parsons said in the locker room, the normally talkative two-time All-Pro pausing to find the right words. “I won’t wish this on anybody. You can’t even put that in words, bro, to be honest.”

The Cowboys were about to get the ball back with the score tied after the two-minute warning when Nick Vigil blocked Ryan Rehkow’s punt.

Amani Oruwariye tried to catch the bouncing ball when leaving it alone would have given Dallas possession. Oruwariye couldn’t hold onto it, and the Bengals’ Maema Njongmeta recovered it at the Cincinnati 43-yard line with 1:53 left.

The Burrow-Chase touchdown came three plays later with 1:01 to go. Dallas only made it to its 48-yard line before turning the ball over on downs with 24 seconds remaining.

The Cowboys (5-8) had slim hopes of making a fourth straight playoff appearance, but those hopes are now almost gone. Dallas had won two games in a row before losing to Cincinnati, after a stretch of five straight losses.

“This one hurt me more than any loss this year, probably even worse than a playoff loss to be honest, because of where we were going, how we were playing, playing good football,” Parsons said. “I’m going to sit on this, but I have to find a way to keep these guys alive. There’s still football to be had.”

For the Cowboys, Oruwariye’s mistake was painfully similar to a snowy Thanksgiving Day in 1993 at Texas Stadium.

Leon Lett mistakenly slid to try to recover a blocked field goal in the final seconds, which would have given Dallas a win over Miami. The Dolphins recovered and kicked a field goal on the last play to win 16-14.

On that cold day 31 years ago, owner Jerry Jones was shown celebrating on the sideline after the block, but his smile quickly disappeared when he realized something was still happening on the field.

Those Cowboys were good enough to recover and win a second consecutive Super Bowl, part of the NFL’s first run of three championships in four seasons.

This year’s Cowboys are trying to win without star quarterback Dak Prescott and seven-time All-Pro right guard Zack Martin, among others. Prescott had season-ending surgery on a torn hamstring last month, and Martin is set for season-ending ankle surgery next week.

“That locker room is really devastated by the turn of events on the blocked kick,” Jones said. “Obviously, we had a block kick call made, and then had one and so many odds that turned against us, and we all would say, ‘Well, why block the kick? Just take the kick and get the field goal and kick it.’ We’ll all be second-guessing that one.”

Special teams coach John Fassel waved frantically from the sideline for all his players to get away from the ball after the block, but Oruwariye never hesitated to try to grab it.

Two of Oruwariye’s fellow defensive backs, Jourdan Lewis and special teams ace C.J. Goodwin, kept reporters away from the sixth-year player in the locker room.

“None of us played a perfect game,” Lewis said. “We can’t judge anybody by one decision. He thought he could make a play. All we can do is learn from it and support him.”

McCarthy didn’t take issue with Parsons leaving the bench before the game ended.

“Everybody’s frustrated, without a doubt, and rightfully so,” McCarthy said. “I would expect it. Those guys poured their hearts out tonight. Everybody’s disappointed.”

The second-year linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys now has a signature play to show off, too.

Overshown’s stunning 23-yard interception return for a touchdown against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving was the type of moment Parsons and others had been hoping for, even before Overshown’s rookie season was cut short due to a knee injury.

“I said from the beginning, he reminds me of somebody,” Parsons said. “Now, he ain’t 11 yet! That’s Agent 0. I think he has his own, creative identity and that’s what I like. He’s not trying to be like me.”

Overshown, who is considering going back to the college number he wore at Texas instead of the 13 he currently has with the Cowboys, will get another chance to shine at home on Monday night against Cincinnati (4-8).

“He said it right. He said I’m not quite 11, but I’m 13,” Overshown said. “And that’s all we need. We don’t need two No. 11s. We got an 11, and we got a 13.” And maybe another rising star.

Parsons was coming off his second All-Pro selection when the Cowboys drafted Overshown in the third round last year. Unfortunately, Overshown tore a knee ligament during a preseason game shortly after being drafted.

The small-town Texas guy who takes pride in his rural roots never stopped smiling while telling reporters that he would return in a year.

“I always say who I was in front of the camera was who I was throughout my whole journey,” Overshown said. “There’s definitely days where, you know, every day is not your best day. But you think about that a couple seconds and then you think about what tomorrow brings. It brightens your day.”

Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy believes that there is a lot for rookies to learn, and that not playing in the regular season wasn’t as big of a setback as some might think.

“He did grow, whether he realized it or not,” McCarthy said. “Just like any player that comes into the league, there are things you just have to go through in your first year. The second year … the expectation of what every day brings is easier. He’s been a very mature, consistent player and person for us.”

Overshown spent five years at Texas and turned 23 just before his season-ending injury. He’ll be 25 when his third regular season begins.

Being a little older has made him more focused on his return from injury.

“You get a year off, but it really wasn’t a year off because I’m expected to be a year two player and not be a year one player when I come back,” Overshown said. “So I definitely took that time off as, ‘I’m not getting the game experience, but I’m going to get this off-the-field experience and I’m going to get dang near close to if I played last year.’”

Overshown played a season-low 18 snaps in Week 2 when the Cowboys gave up touchdowns on New Orleans’ first six possessions during their 44-19 loss.

First-year defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer explained that the Cowboys used more base packages in that game, which didn’t include Overshown.

However, since then, Overshown has played every defensive snap in four games and has been off the field for just one defensive play in the past three weeks. Dallas has won two straight games after a five-game losing streak.

“It’s more about when he first came back, we were trying to get him settled in with one personnel group,” Zimmer said. “He’s got a unique asset of strength and speed and power. When he gets to the football, he’s got physicality and usually he can get to the ball. You don’t want to take a guy like that off the field if you can help it.”

When asked about the potential of him and Overshown becoming a pair, Parsons hinted with a smile and suggested he might spend more time off the line in future years, as he did earlier in his career before focusing more on being a pass rusher.

“You just never know,” Parsons said. “Just me and him. Rock the show.”

For now, Overshown plans to continue playing off the attention Parsons draws at the line of scrimmage, while looking for ways to change the game.

One way or another, Overshown believes he and Parsons can work well together. They are currently the team’s top two sack leaders, with Parsons having 6 1/2 sacks and Overshown having five.

“It’s going to open up our defense a whole lot when they start respecting 13 as well,” Overshown said. “Micah, he’d probably say the same. It’s going to be one of these games where they’re going to have to put some respect on 13 and it’s just not going to be able to triple-team 11 the whole game.”

Dallas pass rusher Micah Parsons is confident despite the setbacks. “It’s just like nothing changes,” he said. “We got who we got, and nothing’s going to change that. Let’s just play ball, man. Let’s just have fun. We got a great opportunity Monday night to put on a show. We’re gonna be the only show on TV.”

Burrow is one of only five quarterbacks in NFL history to have at least 30 touchdown passes and no more than five interceptions through 12 games. He leads the league with 3,337 passing yards, 302 completions, and 30 touchdowns, with just five interceptions.

However, despite these impressive stats, Burrow’s Bengals are only 4-8, much different from other quarterbacks who have posted similar numbers but with winning records. Martin, the Cowboys’ right guard, chose to have season-ending ankle surgery after missing the last two games. He hurt his ankle late in the previous Monday night game, a 34-10 loss to Houston on November 18.

Prescott also underwent season-ending surgery after playing just eight games. Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has been out since Week 4 with a foot injury and is expected to be at least another week away from returning.

DeVito had started last weekend after Daniel Jones was benched and later released. DeVito was looking forward to returning to the site of his first career start with the Giants last year.

However, DeVito finished the 30-7 loss to Tampa Bay with a sore arm. He stayed behind in New York to receive treatment but didn’t have enough time to recover before the game against the Cowboys on Thursday.

Lock has been the backup quarterback in his first season with the Giants. Coach Brian Daboll decided to start DeVito, who was the third-string quarterback, after benching Jones.

Lock, 28, was a second-round draft pick by Denver in 2019. He started 21 out of 24 games over three seasons with the Broncos, posting an 8-13 record. Last season, he made two starts for Seattle while Geno Smith was out with a groin injury, finishing 1-1.

Lock’s start will come with left tackle Jermaine Eluemunor missing the game for the first time this season due to a quad injury.

For the Cowboys, perennial All-Pro right guard Zack Martin, cornerback Trevon Diggs, and tight end Jake Ferguson will each miss a second straight game. Martin has ankle and shoulder injuries, Diggs is dealing with groin and knee issues, and Ferguson has a concussion.

Overshown’s exciting 23-yard pick-6 gave Dallas the lead for good, Rico Dowdle rushed for a touchdown in his first 100-yard game, and the Cowboys held on to win 27-20 over the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day.

Cooper Rush threw a touchdown pass, and Dowdle finished with 112 yards as the Cowboys (5-7) snapped a six-game home losing streak that started with a playoff loss to Green Bay last season.

Dallas has won two games in a row after a five-game losing streak but still faces a lot of work to get back into playoff contention. Prescott, the starting quarterback, tore a hamstring in Week 9.

“We just needed that one last week to get the ball rolling, felt that victory feeling in the locker postgame last week,” Rush said about their 34-26 win at Washington. “Everything’s kind of coming together, feeling good about it.”

Drew Lock, who started in place of the injured Tommy DeVito after Daniel Jones was benched and later released, lost a fumble following Overshown’s pick-6, adding to the Giants’ seventh straight loss (2-10).

Lock ran for 57 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to stop New York’s eighth straight loss to the Cowboys, which also ended their playoff hopes.

“This is one of my first times to be able to come in and play a full game with these guys and show them what I can do,” Lock said. “Minus the turnovers and a few things, it was up and down. Some good. Some bad.”

The Giants had their first lead since Week 5 before Overshown turned the game around, putting the Cowboys back on top after they had led for just a short time during their six-game losing streak at AT&T Stadium.

Leading 7-6, Lock tried to throw a screen pass to Devin Singletary after the running back was pushed back by Overshown. The linebacker tipped the pass into the air, ran it down, and scored.

“I was thinking, ‘Hey, this is a good time to have those afterburners going,’” said Overshown, who missed his rookie season with a knee injury. “I was able to kick in some nitrous, and we were dancing in the end zone after that.”

Overshown also recovered Lock’s fumble on the opening play of the second half, which led to a 2-yard touchdown pass from Rush to Brandin Cooks.

He threw the ball into one of the oversized Salvation Army red kettles, a celebration made famous by Ezekiel Elliott almost ten years ago. He isn’t sure what happened to the ball, but it might go to his son.

“Before the game, I was telling myself that around this time last year, I was just waiting to show people my testimony,” Overshown said. “Just being out there on the field healthy is all I can ask for.”

Rush, now 2-2 as the starter in place of Prescott and 7-3 for his career, threw the touchdown to Cooks after a review overturned a possible fumble into the end zone.

Cooks, who was playing for the first time since Week 4, had been out with an infected knee after getting an injection in New York. He made a key diving catch to seal the win in the final two minutes.

Dowdle rushed for 46 yards in the first quarter, including a 22-yard run, his longest of the season. The Dallas offense slowed down after a strong start, but the defense stepped up and helped the Cowboys maintain the lead.

Lock had a 28-yard scramble to set up New York’s first touchdown and another 21-yard run before scoring on an 8-yard touchdown with 2:18 left. However, Lock was sacked six times.

“I don’t like the results,” Giants coach Brian Daboll said. “Nobody likes the results. But again, I have confidence in the people. Just got to do better.”

“I thought Drew did some good stuff, and then two big turnovers,” said Giants coach Brian Daboll. “Can’t have those turnovers.”

The Giants also committed 13 penalties for 98 yards.

Dallas took the lead for good on linebacker DeMarvion Overshown’s 23-yard interception return for a touchdown early in the second quarter.

Overshown was initially chipped by Devin Singletary as the running back went out for a screen pass. He lunged forward, raised his right arm, and tipped the ball to himself when Lock tried to throw the pass.

Overshown also recovered when Lock fumbled while being sacked on the third play after halftime. That set up a 38-yard drive for a touchdown, making it 20-10 in favor of the Cowboys.

Before this game, the Giants hadn’t led since their 29-20 win at Seattle on October 6. They got their first touchdown on the opening drive on Thursday, a day after Lock learned he would be the starter for the game, with only walkthrough practices to prepare.

Tyrone Tracy’s 1-yard touchdown run made it 7-3, following Lock’s 28-yard scramble to convert a third-and-6. Lock’s run was initially ruled a touchdown before replay showed that the ball hadn’t crossed the goal line when his foot hit the pylon in the front corner of the end zone.

Lock finished with 57 yards rushing on four carries, including an 8-yard touchdown with 2:18 left. He was 21-of-32 passing for 178 yards and was sacked six times.

“Upset when you lose, but, I mean, nothing but fun. You love football, love being able to come out here and play on Thanksgiving,” Lock said. “A couple of things we could have done better, but the last 24 hours, I won’t forget it. Awesome opportunity to come out here and play. Wish we could have gotten it done.”

Lock had been the backup to Jones but stayed as the Giants’ No. 2 quarterback when they decided to make a change. Daboll went with DeVito as the starter last Sunday against Tampa Bay.

DeVito was 21 of 31 for 189 yards in a 30-7 loss to the Buccaneers. He was sacked four times and missed one play in the fourth quarter after taking a hard hit.

Lock, 28, was a second-round draft pick by Denver in 2019. He started 21 of his 24 games over three seasons with the Broncos, with an 8-13 record. He was 1-1 as the starter for Seattle last season when Geno Smith was sidelined with a groin injury.

Daboll said there was nothing significantly wrong with DeVito other than soreness and swelling, and he could probably be ready for their next game at home on December 8 against New Orleans. The coach wasn’t ready to announce who would start at quarterback then.

“We just got done playing here,” Daboll said. “We’ve got a few days where we’ll go back and watch this game.”

Cooper Rush will likely need to win three more games in a row while filling in for the injured Dak Prescott, so any chance at a playoff spot is realistic.

The Cowboys (4-7) might be favored in two of those games and are already favored by four points for their annual Thanksgiving Day game against the New York Giants (2-9) on Thursday, according to BetMGM.

Also, the next four opponents for the defending NFC East champions all have losing records right now. The Cowboys, who have made the playoffs the last three seasons, still have a shot to make something out of the unexpected and wild 34-26 win at Washington that ended their five-game losing streak.

“Behind the eight ball,” said Micah Parsons, the star pass rusher, acknowledging the fact that Dallas still has a lot to prove. “Let’s see how we can handle adversity and see if we can make a playoff run. But we got a long way to go.”

It was a positive start, however, partly because of the best 55 minutes from the Dallas defense since the season opener when the Cowboys dominated Cleveland and looked like a Super Bowl contender.

The last five minutes of the game against Washington looked a lot like most of the other games after the Cowboys’ 33-17 win over the Browns — meaning not very good.

Washington’s rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels, easily led them down the field for a 69-yard touchdown before throwing an 86-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds to Terry McLaurin, who avoided five defenders. A tackle there could have ended the game.

The Cowboys kept a 27-26 lead thanks to Washington kicker Austin Seibert missing his second extra point, and survived another mistake when Juanyeh Thomas returned an onside kick for a touchdown instead of just kneeling to allow Rush to run out the clock.

Despite the chaos at the end, Dallas can take pride in the fact that they held Washington’s offense, led by the rookie quarterback, to only 251 yards. This win, the biggest upset since 2010 against the New York Giants, could still mean something for their season.

Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 90 yards and two touchdowns to help Detroit win its ninth straight game, beating Indianapolis.

Jared Goff threw for 269 yards, completing 26 of 36 passes. The Lions (10-1) extended their winning streak, their longest since 1934.

Anthony Richardson passed for 172 yards and rushed for 61 more for the Colts (5-7). Michael Pittman Jr. caught six passes for 96 yards, but Jonathan Taylor was limited to 35 yards rushing.

Dolphins 34, Patriots 15

Tua Tagovailoa threw for 317 yards and four touchdowns, leading Miami to an easy win over New England in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Jaylen Waddle caught eight passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, and Jonnu Smith had nine catches for 87 yards and a touchdown for the Dolphins (5-6), who won their third straight. Running back De’Von Achane caught two touchdown passes.

The Raiders (2-9) have now lost seven games in a row. The Broncos (7-5) completed a season-series sweep of the Raiders.

After the game, reports said Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew suffered a broken collarbone and will miss the rest of the season. Minshew was injured after being sacked by two Broncos defenders.

Packers 38, 49ers 10

Josh Jacobs ran for 106 yards and three touchdowns, and the Green Bay defense forced three turnovers to help the Packers beat San Francisco.

Green Bay (8-3) avenged last season’s playoff loss to the 49ers (5-6), who have now lost two straight games. Jordan Love passed for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

Brandon Allen started at quarterback for the 49ers in place of Brock Purdy, who missed the game due to a shoulder injury. Allen completed 17 of 29 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

These late mistakes played a big part in the Washington Commanders’ third straight loss, 34-26 to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

The game was mostly uneventful until the fourth quarter, when both teams combined to score 31 points in the final four minutes, the highest total in an NFL game in over ten years. The loss hurt Washington’s playoff hopes, dropping them to 7-5.

“Losing like that is tough, but it’s never just one play,” said rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. “There are plays throughout the game where little things add up to big things.”

There were many little things that went wrong. After Bates’ fumble, the Cowboys took an 11-point lead. The Commanders made a 2-point conversion to cut it to three, but Dallas’ KaVonte Turpin returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown.

“I didn’t make the play when it was there to make, and it cost us,” Reaves, one of the league’s top special teams players and an All-Pro two seasons ago, said. “No excuse. I’ve made that play 100 times, but I didn’t today, and it cost us the game. It’s unacceptable. It’s on me. It’s going to hurt for a while.”

After Seibert made a 51-yard field goal, Daniels connected with Terry McLaurin on an 86-yard touchdown pass to put Washington ahead 27-26 with 21 seconds left.

Coach Dan Quinn said there was never any thought of going for two points in that situation. Seibert missed the extra point attempt, sending it wide left.

“I just wasn’t striking it well,” Seibert said. “I felt fine, and it wasn’t a low snap. It was on me.”
