The addition of Adams strengthens a revamped Raiders secondary heading into the 2025 NFL season. Alongside Adams, the team also added cornerback JT Woods, who previously played for the Los Angeles Chargers.

The reporter, who covered Adams during his tenure with the New York Jets before the Seahawks acquired him in a July 2020 trade, shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday night depicting Adams allowing a go-ahead touchdown pass in a 41-35 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The accompanying comment from the reporter was a simple “Yikes.”

In response, Adams posted a picture of the reporter’s wife on X with the same “Yikes” comment. When questioned about crossing a line, Adams expressed frustration, stating, “Oh, it’s always the athlete who crossed the line when he responds,” and clarified that he aimed to convey his displeasure and deter further comments.

Adams acknowledged a history of animosity with the reporter, citing ongoing comments since the trade and prior disagreements. He admitted to being fed up, emphasizing that his primary goal was to halt the reporter’s responses.

Responding to another New York reporter who labeled him a bad person, Adams defended himself, asserting, “When others go low, I went lower,” both on X and in the locker room.

Coach Carroll acknowledged addressing the deleted post with Adams, expressing uncertainty about its appropriateness and emphasizing the team’s desire to avoid such incidents.

Adams, smiling, characterized his conversation with Carroll as “a great conversation.” When questioned about responding to criticism with a personal attack, Adams argued that the reporter’s comments were also personal and expressed his hope that the incident would discourage further interactions.

In response, Adams shared a zoomed-in image of Hughes’ wife, Brie, along with the same critical caption used by the reporter to comment on Adams’ gameplay, as reported by Sports Illustrated. Although Adams later deleted his initial post, the NFL community did not shy away from condemning the athlete for his unkind tweet.

NFL Fines Jamal Adams $50,000 for Altercation with Doctor During Seahawks’ Game

This week, the NFL imposed a $50,000 fine on Jamal Adams, the safety for the Seattle Seahawks, after he, according to the league, engaged in “verbal remarks and inappropriate physical contact” with a doctor in the bench area during Seattle’s Week 6 defeat against the Cincinnati Bengals, as per a source from CBS Sports.

In a letter sent to Adams this week, the league stated that his actions disrupted the orderly management of the game when an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant (UNC) was accompanying Seahawks wide receiver Jake Bobo to the blue medical tent for a concussion evaluation.

The incident occurred shortly after Bobo caught a 20-yard pass from Geno Smith and was subjected to a hard hit by Bengals safety Dax Hill, resulting in a penalty. Bobo was temporarily removed from the game for an evaluation but later returned after passing the check.

A source from CBS Sports disclosed that there is video evidence of the incident, which the league reviewed before imposing the fine.

This incident transpired following a nationally televised episode earlier in the month on “Monday Night Football” on October 2, when Adams shouted at another independent doctor on the sideline while being assessed for a possible concussion.

Adams was eventually diagnosed with a concussion. Although the NFL contemplated imposing a fine at that time, they did not penalize Adams for his actions while concussed. Adams subsequently issued a public apology later in the week.

In his apology in early October, Adams stated, “First and foremost, I want to apologize to the OG. You did everything right when you realized I was concussed. I apologize for any negative energy I brought your way. Watching the replay, I am thankful for your patience, knowing I wasn’t myself in that moment. You’re a real one, and you serve a great purpose that benefits the NFL and so many players. Prioritizing a player’s health is essential. Much respect to you!”

According to a league source, Adams is not classified as a “repeat offender,” and the $50,000 fine for the incident on Sunday does not consider the events of October 2.

Adams is set to make his 2023 debut against the Giants, coming back from an injury that has kept him out of the game since the 2022 season opener.

Adams spoke to reporters on Friday, sharing his experiences with his latest setback and how he almost considered retiring due to it.

He said, “It was tough. “I thought about retiring. I thought about a lot of things. Is this going to be it for me? I didn’t know. But I knew eventually after I got that MRI, I told myself I was going to be back. I didn’t know when or how, but I was going to figure it out. I knew if I kept my faith and those around me who really love and support me, then I could make it out.”

Adams Injury Plagued Career

Adams, a three-time Pro Bowl talent, has suffered from multiple injuries in the past three seasons.

His injuries include a torn quad tendon and two torn labrums. The injuries have taken a physical and mental toll on the 27-year-old safety.

Adams was a part of the New York Jets before joining the Seahawks on a trade-in 2020. He has played just 25 regular-season games for the team from Seattle due to injuries, which he said left him in a “dark place.”

Adams said, “I was having all types of thoughts running through my mind, but at the time when I did tear my knee, that was definitely something I was considering. I was considering everything at the moment. I was in a dark place.

I’m not on anything suicidal, but definitely in a lot of dark times as far as getting away from the game of football, getting away from people. At the time, I wasn’t really talking to many people and wasn’t answering my phone. So you go through real-life situations in this game of football.”

Adams went into detail about the mental issues that athletes face when they suffer from injuries, stating, ” Football teaches you life … and adversity hit me real quick, and I have learned to attack it and embrace it…[while being prepared] to rise up to the next occasion.”
