Adams and Garoppolo Reconnect on Rams, Leaving Raiders Disappointments Behind

In 2023, Jimmy Garoppolo was benched as the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, and star wide receiver Davante Adams publicly supported the decision at the time. This led some to believe there was tension between the two players. However, both are now teammates again on the Los Angeles Rams, and Adams insists there was no personal issue between them during their stint in Las Vegas.

During an appearance on Sedano & Kap, Adams described playing with Garoppolo again as “amazing.” He clarified that their frustrations back in Las Vegas were directed at the broader situation within the team, not at each other. Despite the difficulties, Adams says there was never any animosity between them.

Adams and Garoppolo Reunite on Rams, Moving Past Raiders’ Frustrating Experience

Adams emphasized that he’s always had a good relationship with Garoppolo. He said the time with the Raiders was a “dark moment” and that both players were “miserable” during that period. Now, reunited in Los Angeles, they’ve had a chance to reconnect, joke about their past experience, and focus on building chemistry on the field.

Currently, Garoppolo is taking first-team reps at Rams training camp while Matthew Stafford recovers from a back injury. Early signs point to a positive dynamic between the two veterans, a sharp contrast to their rocky time with the Raiders.

Las Vegas Raiders Make Surprising Move, Benching Jimmy Garoppolo in Favor of Rookie Quarterback Aidan O’Connell

The era of Jimmy G. in Las Vegas appears to be coming to an end after just six starts. In the wake of a major organizational overhaul that saw the departure of head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, the Raiders have made a surprising decision to start rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell over Jimmy Garoppolo going forward. This change will be put into effect starting with Sunday’s game against the Giants, as confirmed by interim head coach Antonio Pierce.

Pierce explained the decision, stating, “We just feel like he [O’Connell] gives us the best chance.” Garoppolo’s performance in his first season with the Raiders has left much to be desired, which makes the transition to O’Connell a significant move, especially considering that Garoppolo signed a substantial three-year, $72.5 million contract during the offseason. It’s worth noting that if the Raiders were to part ways with Garoppolo after just one season, they would face a substantial $28.3 million dead cap hit in 2024.

Aidan O’Connell, a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, isn’t considered a blue-chip prospect or the clear successor to the quarterback position. Nonetheless, with Raiders owner Mark Davis losing faith in McDaniels and Ziegler’s vision, the franchise is willing to explore O’Connell’s potential as a starting quarterback.

Garoppolo, at 31 years old, has had a lackluster season, throwing seven touchdowns but also nine interceptions in his six starts this year. His performance hit a low point in Monday’s 26-14 road loss to the Lions, where he managed a mere 126 passing yards on 10 of 21 attempts and missed opportunities with Davante Adams for two potential touchdowns. Notably, Garoppolo exceeded 210 passing yards in just one of his starts, and McDaniels did not commit to him after Monday’s game, which turned out to be his final postgame press conference with the franchise.

On the other hand, Aidan O’Connell, a product of Purdue, has had limited experience, with one start and two games under his belt. In his sole start, he completed 24 of 39 passes for 238 yards with one interception in a 24-17 loss to the Chargers in Week 4 when Garoppolo was sidelined. Although the Raiders initially chose journeyman Brian Hoyer over O’Connell in Week 7, the rookie did enter the game and threw his first touchdown pass in a 30-12 loss. So far, O’Connell has completed 34 of 52 passes for 313 yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.

Report: Raiders Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo Unavailable Against Bears Due to Back Injury

On Sunday, the Bears and the Raiders will face off without their starting quarterbacks, posing a significant challenge for both teams.

The Raiders’ Jimmy Garoppolo will be sidelined due to a back injury sustained during the first half against the Patriots last week. Although the injury isn’t as severe as initially feared, Garoppolo hasn’t practiced, forcing the Raiders to choose between veteran Brian Hoyer and rookie Aidan O’Connell as replacements.

Hoyer, a 15-year veteran, stepped in for Garoppolo during the Patriots game, completing 6 of 10 passes for 102 yards in a crucial 21-17 victory. Interestingly, Hoyer, like the Bears’ prospective starter Tyson Bagent, entered the NFL undrafted.

Hoyer previously played for the Bears in 2016, securing a 98.0 passer rating in five starts, albeit with the team managing just one win out of those games. He also had a lone start for the Patriots last season.

On the other side, the Bears are dealing with their own quarterback issue. Justin Fields is doubtful to play due to a dislocated thumb, rendering him unable to practice. As a result, the Bears are planning to start undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent, adding to the uncertainty of the matchup.

The Raiders have another option in the form of rookie Aidan O’Connell, a fourth-round draft pick out of Purdue who previously played at Stevenson High School.

O’Connell started for the Raiders in Week 4 against the Chargers, completing 24 of 39 passes for 234 yards, although he threw an interception, leading to a passer rating of 68.1. He also showcased his versatility by rushing for a touchdown during that game.

With both teams missing their starting quarterbacks, Sunday’s game promises an interesting battle between veteran experience and rookie talent, adding an element of unpredictability to the outcome.

Raiders Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo Hospitalized After Back Injury in Victory Against Patriots

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was rushed to a local hospital following a back injury suffered during the team’s 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Initially, Garoppolo was labeled as doubtful to make a return to the game as the second half commenced, but his status was promptly updated to “out.” Brian Hoyer stepped in as the quarterback for the Raiders in place of the injured Garoppolo.

After the game concluded, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels confirmed that Garoppolo had been transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. McDaniels stated, “I know he (Garoppolo) left, and everybody knows that he left. They are just doing tests, you know, and making sure they take care of all that stuff. I do not have an update on Jimmy at the moment.”

During a drive that ended with a field goal, Garoppolo displayed his frustration on the sideline before engaging in a discussion with team trainers while seated on the bench. He subsequently walked off under his own power to the locker room with a few seconds left on the game clock in the first half.

Garoppolo exited the game with the Raiders in the lead, 13-3. His first-half performance saw him complete 14 of 22 passes for 162 yards, including a touchdown to Jakobi Meyers and an interception.

It was a poignant matchup for Garoppolo, facing the Patriots team that had selected him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Garoppolo guided the Raiders on three scoring drives during his time on the field, while Hoyer managed two in the second half, concluding with a 6-of-10 passing record for 102 yards.

Garoppolo joined the Raiders this offseason, reuniting with his former Patriots offensive coordinator, McDaniels, who now serves as the head coach of the Las Vegas team. In just over four games, Garoppolo had completed 100 of 147 passes for 1,079 yards, seven touchdowns, and eight interceptions. However, his season has been marred by a concussion that caused him to miss one game, and now the Raiders are left waiting anxiously to see if he will face further time on the sidelines due to his recent injury.
