Raiders Trade for Kenny Pickett to Strengthen Quarterback Depth After O’Connell Injury

The Las Vegas Raiders have acquired quarterback Kenny Pickett from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round draft pick. Pickett is expected to serve as the primary backup to starting quarterback Geno Smith.

The move comes just days after Aidan O’Connell suffered a fractured wrist in the preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals, sidelining him for six to eight weeks. O’Connell will likely be placed on injured reserve, leaving the Raiders in urgent need of quarterback depth.

Pete Carroll Prioritizes Experience as Pickett Brings Reliability to Raiders Quarterback Depth

Head coach Pete Carroll emphasized the importance of bringing in a player with proven experience. While the Raiders have rookie Cam Miller on the roster, Carroll noted that Miller lacks the necessary playing time in the NFL.

Carroll stated, “A guy that’s had game experience is huge to me. Cam hasn’t played in the league much, so we’re looking for an experienced player who could help us.” Pickett, with multiple years of NFL starting experience, fits that requirement and provides stability at the backup position.

Since being drafted in the first round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022, Pickett has appeared in 30 games, starting 25. He has thrown for 4,765 yards with 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 62.4% of his passes.

His record as a starter stands at 15–10, showing that he has been able to lead teams to victory despite some inconsistencies. Pickett’s experience and resilience are expected to provide the Raiders with a reliable second option under center.

Pickett’s NFL Journey Highlights Frequent Trades as Browns Turn to Youthful Depth

Pickett’s career has already taken him through several organizations in a short span. After two seasons with the Steelers, he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles to serve as Jalen Hurts’ backup. This past March, the Browns acquired him in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

However, his stint in Cleveland was short-lived, as he missed the preseason with a hamstring injury suffered in late July. Despite Browns coach Kevin Stefanski’s optimism that Pickett would be available for Week 1, the team opted to move on with younger options.

The trade leaves the Cleveland Browns with veteran starter Joe Flacco and two rookie quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, competing for the backup role. Stefanski has not yet named Flacco’s official backup, and the team also released Tyler Huntley over the weekend.

With Pickett gone, Cleveland’s quarterback room is now younger and less experienced, while the Raiders gain a tested passer to reinforce their depth chart as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Kenny Pickett Injured at Browns Camp as Joe Flacco Leads and Rookies Get Bigger Roles

Cleveland Browns quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a hamstring injury during the latter part of Saturday’s practice session, and head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Monday that there is no set timetable for his return.

While details about the injury’s severity remain limited, Stefanski indicated that the team is adopting a day-to-day approach. An MRI conducted after the incident confirmed the injury, and Pickett is scheduled to be reevaluated later this week. The Browns’ coaching staff and medical team are monitoring his recovery closely.

Joe Flacco Takes Lead as Rookies Rotate in Amid Ongoing Quarterback Competition

In Pickett’s absence, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco will take the majority of first-team snaps as the Browns’ quarterback competition continues into the second week of training camp. Flacco, who split first-team reps with Pickett during the first week, now finds himself in a more prominent position.

Kenny Pickett Injured at Browns Camp as Joe Flacco Leads and Rookies Get Bigger Roles

His increased role may provide stability and leadership, particularly while the coaching staff evaluates how to distribute reps among the remaining quarterbacks.

With Pickett temporarily sidelined, rookie quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are expected to see more action in training camp. Although both primarily led second and third team offenses last week, Stefanski suggested that they would be rotated more frequently moving forward. However, their roles with either the second or third team will depend on the specific goals and structure of each practice period.

Flexible Practice Strategy Aims to Maximize Rookie Development and Evaluate Quarterback Depth Effectively

Coach Stefanski emphasized the importance of flexibility in practice planning, stating that the reps given to Gabriel and Sanders would depend on the session’s objectives.

This adaptable approach allows the coaching staff to evaluate all quarterbacks in various scenarios, giving each player a chance to develop and demonstrate their potential. The team aims to optimize exposure and learning opportunities for the rookies while maintaining competitiveness across all units.

Among the quarterbacks in camp, Shedeur Sanders is the only one who has not yet taken first-team reps. A fifth-round draft pick, Sanders has shown promise, including highlight plays noted during camp. His performance may earn him more opportunities, especially with Pickett sidelined. As the Browns navigate this unexpected shift in their quarterback rotation, the coming weeks will be crucial for depth chart evaluations and long-term planning.

Kenny Pickett Injures Hamstring as Browns Quarterback Battle Heats Up in Camp

Cleveland Browns quarterback Kenny Pickett injured his hamstring near the end of Saturday’s practice session, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The injury occurred during a red zone drill, where Pickett ended his session with a touchdown pass while rolling to his right. He is expected to be reevaluated later this week, leaving his short-term status uncertain as training camp intensifies.

Pickett’s Absence Opens Door for Others as Browns Evaluate Quarterback Rotation Depth

With Pickett temporarily sidelined, more practice reps are expected for the other quarterbacks in the competition: Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. Pickett had been splitting first-team snaps with Flacco throughout the first week of camp, while Gabriel occasionally rotated in. Sanders, a fifth-round rookie, has yet to receive first-team reps but may now see an increased opportunity to prove himself.

Kenny Pickett
Kenny Pickett (NFL)

Browns head coach, Kevin Stefanski, has described the quarterback rotation as “fluid,” particularly during the early stages of camp. With the team’s first padded practice scheduled for Monday, Stefanski and the offensive staff are expected to assess performance and possibly adjust the rotation heading into the second week. The injury to Pickett may accelerate changes that were already under consideration.

Pickett’s Strong Start Praised Before Injury Disrupts His Crucial Contract-Year Campaign

Before the injury, Pickett had received high praise for his performance. Quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave described his first two practices as “stellar” and had not anticipated any major shifts in the quarterback rotation. Musgrave highlighted the steady progress of all four quarterbacks, commending offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and Stefanski for ensuring each player got sufficient reps.

Pickett, originally a 2022 first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers, was acquired by the Browns in March through a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. Cleveland sent a fifth-round pick and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in exchange.

However, the Browns declined Pickett’s fifth-year option, meaning he is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2025 season. The injury adds another layer of complexity to what is already a pivotal training camp for his career.

Kenny Pickett Mentors Browns Rookies While Emerging as Potential Trade Chip Amid QB Shakeup

The Cleveland Browns are fully supportive of quarterback Kenny Pickett’s role as a mentor to rising prospects Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel during offseason workouts. Despite not being the long-term face of the franchise, Pickett has proven valuable in teaching the younger quarterbacks key elements of the NFL game.

His presence during OTAs and minicamp has given Sanders and Gabriel a chance to learn from someone with real in-game experience, even if limited.

Pickett Shares Play-Action Knowledge While Facing Uncertain Future Amid Gabriel’s Rapid Rise

As reported by Yahoo Sports’ Jori Epstein, Pickett has taken a hands-on approach in helping Sanders understand play-action mechanics—an area emphasized in head coach Kevin Stefanski’s offensive system.

Though Pickett himself had little exposure to under-center concepts before joining the Browns, he adapted quickly and passed that knowledge to Sanders. Specifically, Sanders sought Pickett’s help with timing footwork and understanding how to pair it with different drop-back depths (three-step, five-step, or seven-step drops).

Kenny Pickett
Kenny Pickett (NFL)

Epstein also raised the possibility that Pickett’s future in Cleveland might hinge on Gabriel’s development. If Gabriel proves himself ready to serve as the backup—or even compete for the starting role, Pickett could become expendable.

With veteran Joe Flacco also in the mix, the Browns might explore trading Pickett, especially if they believe the younger Gabriel offers more long-term upside. His strong preseason showing could boost his trade value across the league.

Pickett’s Strong Play Could Make Him Valuable Trade Bait for the Browns

Ironically, Pickett’s effectiveness as a mentor and potential starter could work against his chances of staying in Cleveland. If he performs too well, he may become a trade asset rather than a core piece of the Browns’ plans. The quarterback room is clearly in flux, and Pickett’s trajectory will depend on both his performance and the progress of those around him.

Whether he stays or is traded, Pickett’s role this offseason has been a positive for all involved. He’s shown professionalism, embraced a leadership role, and helped accelerate the development of two highly touted rookies. If Pickett manages to recapture the promise he showed when drafted by the Steelers in 2022, he could find a new opportunity elsewhere, making the situation a potential win-win for both Pickett and the Browns.

Kenny Pickett Emerges as Early Favorite in Browns’ Crowded Quarterback Competition

The Cleveland Browns are in the midst of a competitive quarterback battle with four players contending for the starting role: veterans Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco, along with rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. In terms of experience, Pickett and Flacco have a clear advantage. Flacco brings 191 career starts to the table, while Pickett has started 30 games, mostly with the Steelers, before spending last season in Philadelphia as a backup.

Diontae Johnson Weighs In on Quarterback Race Between Pickett and Flacco

Wide receiver Diontae Johnson, a new addition to the Browns, offered insight into the quarterback battle during a podcast appearance. Johnson suggested that Kenny Pickett seems to be the early favorite for the starting position. He mentioned seeing Pickett taking reps with the first-team offense during offseason activities, indicating the coaching staff’s current preference.

Kenny Pickett
Kenny Pickett (NFL)

Despite Pickett’s apparent lead, Joe Flacco’s experience and recent performance can’t be overlooked. Johnson acknowledged that Flacco, fresh off a season with Philadelphia and a Super Bowl experience, remains a viable option. While Pickett is getting more early reps, Flacco’s proven track record gives the team a strong backup plan and potentially even a reliable starter, depending on preseason performance.

Roster Limits Force Tough Decisions as Browns Weigh Quarterback Options Before Season Start

The Browns face practical constraints as the regular season approaches. While they’ve considered the rare move of keeping four quarterbacks, roster limitations make this unlikely. Most NFL teams retain only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, with a third on the practice squad. This reality puts pressure on the coaching staff to make some tough decisions in the coming weeks.

If the Browns choose to carry three quarterbacks into the season, one of the veterans—Flacco or Pickett—will likely win the starting role, while the other could end up as a backup or potentially be cut. The rookies Gabriel and Sanders are developmental prospects, and one may land on the practice squad. As things stand, Kenny Pickett appears to have the edge, but the decision will ultimately come down to preseason performance and strategic roster planning.

Browns Quarterback Race Heats Up as Flacco, Pickett, Gabriel, and Sanders Vie for Starting Role

The Cleveland Browns currently have four primary candidates competing for the starting quarterback job: Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. According to offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, any of the four can win the job, as the evaluation process is still in its early stages. Rees emphasized that the group is pushing each other to improve, and the team will be ready to go by the start of the season in September.

Quarterback Competition Narrows As Browns Balance Experience, Potential And Depth Chart Challenges

Although all four quarterbacks are in contention now, it’s unlikely all will remain in the running once training camp begins. The team will need to reduce the competition to three, with one likely being traded. There is speculation that Kenny Pickett might be the odd man out. The reasoning is that giving too many reps to the quarterback at the bottom of the depth chart could hinder the readiness of the eventual starter.

Browns Quarterback Race Heats Up as Flacco, Pickett, Gabriel, and Sanders Vie for Starting Role
Browns Quarterback Race Heats Up as Flacco, Pickett, Gabriel, and Sanders Vie for Starting Role

Joe Flacco brings valuable NFL experience and a strong connection with Browns fans, while Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders offer potential as long-term answers at the position. The Browns appear cautious about prematurely giving up on either Gabriel or Sanders, as they could develop into franchise quarterbacks. This mix of experience and youth presents the team with multiple paths to success.

Minicamp Crucial For Quarterback Evaluation Amid Uncertainty Surrounding Deshaun Watson’s Status

The Browns will hold a mandatory minicamp next week, which serves as the final opportunity to assess the quarterbacks before training camp. Rees described the plan as fluid, emphasizing the importance of giving all four quarterbacks ample reps and opportunities to showcase their skills. Creativity in practice plans will be key to ensuring each quarterback has a chance to develop and compete fairly.

A significant complication for the Browns is the uncertain status of Deshaun Watson, who remains on the roster despite the team having moved on from him. If Watson is medically cleared to play, the Browns will face a difficult decision, particularly because insurance payouts depend on his being unable to play.

As August approaches, Cleveland will not only need to finalize their starting quarterback but also prepare for a challenging Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kenny Pickett Sets the Record Straight: Refutes Rumors of Refusing Steelers’ QB2 Role on Sunday

Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett vehemently refuted speculations on Tuesday that he declined to serve as the backup to Mason Rudolph in the game against the Seahawks. Dismissing the rumors circulating on social media, Pickett clarified that the decision was straightforward – either he would start and play if deemed fit and capable, or if not, he would be the third quarterback and not participate.

Addressing the media, Pickett expressed frustration at the false rumors, emphasizing that there was no discussion of him being the backup for the Week 17 matchup. He criticized the spread of baseless claims attacking his character and asserted that the reports lacked any evidence.

Pickett, who missed the Week 17 game due to a high ankle sprain and underwent TightRope surgery on December 4, revealed that he had received medical clearance late last week. Contrary to previous rumors, he clarified that he would be dressing as the No. 2 quarterback behind Rudolph in the upcoming game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Reflecting on his injury, Pickett acknowledged the challenging recovery process but affirmed his readiness to fulfill the backup role. Despite not playing since aggravating his ankle injury in Week 13, he expressed eagerness to support Rudolph and contribute if called upon.

Head coach Mike Tomlin explained on Monday that the decision to start Rudolph against the Ravens was based on recent performances, citing Rudolph’s success in the last two games. Pickett acknowledged Rudolph’s competence while expressing his desire to be prepared for any opportunity that arises.

Pickett detailed the limited communication with the coaching staff during his recovery, emphasizing the focus on ankle rehab. He acknowledged that the lack of team reps and concerns about his ankle’s condition contributed to his inactivity against the Seahawks.

Despite the frustration of not starting, Pickett maintained a competitive spirit, recognizing the team’s priorities and expressing his commitment to being prepared for potential playoff scenarios. He declined to speculate on the implications for his future role, citing the day-by-day, week-by-week nature of the situation.

As the Steelers gear up for the crucial matchup against the Ravens, Pickett remains focused on his role as the backup quarterback and being ready to contribute if needed.

Steelers Quarterback Update: Pickett Out, Rudolph In as Starter Against Bengals

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin officially declared that quarterback Kenny Pickett will be sidelined in Saturday’s game against the Bengals. Pickett, who underwent “TightRope” surgery on his right ankle less than three weeks ago, participated in a limited capacity during practice this week. Despite initial speculation on Pickett’s potential return against Cincinnati, Tomlin firmly ruled him out after Thursday’s practice.

In Pickett’s absence, Mason Rudolph has been designated as the starting quarterback. Rudolph expressed his enthusiasm, noting his teammates’ excitement and his eagerness to contribute to the team’s quest for victory. Additionally, Tomlin revealed that Mitch Trubisky, who filled in for Pickett in the last two games, would serve as Rudolph’s backup against Cincinnati.

Pickett
Steelers Quarterback Update

Rudolph’s last start dates back to Week 10 of the 2021 season against the Lions, where he posted 242 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception in a 16-16 tie. Since then, he has seen limited game action, including a brief appearance in garbage time during a Week 16 loss to the Chiefs in 2021 and a six-snap performance against the Colts last week.

Tomlin explained on Monday that the decision to start Rudolph aims to ignite the offense and generate more points, crucial for the Steelers as they navigate a competitive AFC wild-card race. Despite facing a three-game losing streak, the Steelers (7-7) have an opportunity to enhance their playoff prospects with a victory over the Bengals (8-6) on Saturday, especially after losing the previous encounter between these division rivals last month in Cincinnati.

Steelers Quarterback Kenny Pickett Undergoes Ankle Surgery, Opening the Door for Trubisky Against Patriots

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett underwent ankle surgery on Monday to expedite the recovery of a high sprain in his right ankle, according to coach Mike Tomlin. Pickett will be sidelined for Thursday’s game against the New England Patriots. Although Tomlin did not provide a specific timeline for Pickett’s return, he assured us that the injury was not season-ending.

Coach Tomlin, when questioned about Pickett’s recovery timeline, stated, “They’ll always come out of the O.R. with some information in that regard, but I’m just not privy to it as I sit here today. That’s why I framed it the way that I framed it. Rest assured, he won’t be available this week.”

Pickett underwent a “TightRope” procedure, as per sources from ESPN. Notably, he had a similar ankle stabilization procedure on his left ankle in 2020 while at Pitt, returning after a four-week recovery period.

In the absence of Pickett, quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who took over in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, will start against the Patriots, with Mason Rudolph serving as the backup.

Explaining the decision to start Trubisky over Rudolph, Tomlin said, “He gets the most work. You can’t give work to three guys, to be quite honest with you. Most of Mason Rudolph’s work comes on a scout team offense, and so Mitch has been positioned to get the work.”

The Steelers also added former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley to the practice squad on Monday.

Thursday’s game will be the seventh time in 26 games that Trubisky has played due to Pickett’s injuries. Tomlin dismissed concerns about Pickett’s repeated injuries, stating, “I don’t know that we’re viewing it as something that’s chronic, particularly with something like an ankle injury, and so we’re just dealing with this on a case-by-case basis as we sit here right now.”

Earlier in the season, Pickett left two games early with a knee bruise and rib injury. Despite taking over the starting role early in the 2022 season, Pickett exited two games early with concussions and missed one start.

The Steelers are winless in the three games where Trubisky replaced Pickett this season, but they had a 2-1 record last season when Trubisky either took over or started after Pickett became the full-time starter in Week 5.

This season, Trubisky has completed 29 of 49 attempts for 273 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Tomlin spoke highly of Trubisky, saying, “He’s been a franchise quarterback before. He’s comfortable in those shoes. He doesn’t behave like a backup as being elevated, and I think those are things that make him attractive.”

Trubisky will face a Patriots defense that has held opponents to seven points or fewer in the past three games. The Patriots’ passing defense has also improved, limiting opposing offenses to an average of 189.3 yards in their last three outings.

Despite the setback of losing Pickett, tight end Pat Freiermuth expressed confidence in Trubisky, emphasizing that the team remains focused and committed to executing the game plan.

Steelers’ Quarterback Kenny Pickett Sidelined by Ankle Injury, Mitchell Trubisky Takes the Helm in 24-10 Loss to Cardinals

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett sustained an ankle injury, forcing him out of the game in Sunday’s 24-10 defeat against the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Mike Tomlin, post-game, provided no details regarding the specifics of Pickett’s second-year QB injury.

Pickett injured his ankle in the second quarter while scrambling for a 2-yard gain near the goal line. Following the setback, veteran Mitchell Trubisky took over for Pittsburgh, handling the next snap with a fourth-and-goal handoff that yielded no gain. At the time of Pickett’s departure, the game was tied at 3-3. He had completed 7 of 10 passes for 70 yards.

Initially labeled as questionable to return, Pickett was ultimately ruled out before the commencement of the third quarter. This decision left Trubisky at the helm for Pittsburgh, navigating through multiple weather delays. Despite Trubisky’s efforts, the Steelers managed only one additional score in Pickett’s absence. Meanwhile, the Cardinals capitalized, scoring three touchdowns to secure their third win of the season, dealing a setback to Pittsburgh’s playoff aspirations with a 7-5 record.

Trubisky concluded the game 11 of 17 for 117 yards and a touchdown pass. With a rapid turnaround to face the New England Patriots on Thursday night, Tomlin informed reporters that the team would stick with Trubisky if Pickett is unable to recover in time to assume the starting role.

Surprise Coaching Shakeup Ignites Determination in Pittsburgh Steelers: Quarterback Kenny Pickett and Team Respond to Unexpected Offensive Coordinator Firing

Following their 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns, quarterback Kenny Pickett was caught off guard, along with many of his teammates, when word leaked out that the Pittsburgh Steelers had made a major turnover to their offensive coaching staff. It took Pickett by surprise when coach Mike Tomlin removed offensive coordinator Matt Canada from his position.

Pickett expressed his regret at the unanticipated turn of events in a statement on Wednesday. He recognized the difficulty this poses for the squad and underlined that in the next seven games of the season, every player must step up and advance as a unit. Pickett underlined the need to recover swiftly and refocus. Pickett personally wished Coach Canada well.

Mason Cole, the center, agreed with Pickett when he said that all members of the team—coaches and players included—share accountability for Canada’s exit. Cole underlined the necessity to move on after the loss, particularly when there is a division game in five days. He conveyed his excitement to move past the recent incidents and take on the challenges that lie ahead.

Kenny Pickett
Kenny Pickett

Pickett does not expect a significant shift in the offensive approach under interim offensive coordinator Eddie Faulkner and quarterback coach Mike Sullivan despite the change in leadership. He stressed that it would be unfeasible to make significant changes at this point in the season and that the current system should be maintained with minor tweaks.

Known for his fastidious approach, Pickett acknowledged his own dissatisfaction with his performance this season and voiced a desire to recapture the joy of playing football. Despite his setbacks, tight end Pat Freiermuth and wide receiver Allen Robinson II showed faith in Pickett, emphasizing the need for the offensive line as a whole to address issues and strive for progress.

Diontae Johnson, a wide receiver, expressed optimism that the recent coaching changes will spark an offensive comeback and emphasized the value of unity and teamwork in overcoming obstacles.

Mason Cole believes that the change in coaching will provide the team a chance to unite in the face of difficulty. He sees the team putting up a united front in the face of outside criticism, and he thinks the experience will ultimately make them more determined.

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense now has a greater feeling of urgency and challenge as a result of Matt Canada’s sudden ouster as offensive coordinator. Through a focus on growth, solidarity, and a resolve to move forward in spite of the recent defeats, players and coaches alike are coming together to overcome this adversity.

Browns’ Deshaun Watson Not Playing Due to Shoulder Injury; Dorian Thompson-robinson to Start

The primary quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, Deshaun Watson, will not be able to play on Sunday because his shoulder is hurt. He will miss a big and important game against the Baltimore Ravens. Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network made it known to everyone about this on Sunday morning. Later, the Browns told everyone that Watson was not allowed to play for a while.

With Watson out, rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson will kickstart his first career in the NFL. Watson participated in all three practices this week on a limited basis and was limited to one pitch in Friday’s practice. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski called Watson’s final practice “easy throwing.”

The Browns starter was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game and was not expected to play until early Sunday morning. Instead, Watson will miss his first game in Cleveland since serving an 11-game suspension last season.

Watson injured his shoulder in Cleveland’s Week 3 win over the Titans when the Browns quarterback was brought down on a read-option run by Amani Hooker in the third quarter. Through three games this season, Watson has completed 65 of 102 passes for 678 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Thompson-Robinson had an exciting preseason with the Browns, showcasing his ability to make accurate throws and play with his feet. DTR’s play was convincing enough to make the former UCLA QB the backup signal caller and trade Joshua Dobbs to the Arizona Cardinals.

In his first real game on Sunday, Thompson-Robinson will try to keep up with Lamar Jackson and the rest of Baltimore’s team.

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett Suffers Knee Injury in Game against Texans and Needs Tests

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett was sidelined with a knee injury in Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans. After the game, the only update from head coach Mike Tomlin was that Pickett needed an evaluation.

Pickett was injured in a fourth-down sack of Texas defensive end Jonathan Greenard late in the third quarter. Pickett needed help on the sideline but was quickly removed from the team.

The Steelers were losing 23-6, and then Mitchell Trubisky came in to play quarterback. Pickett, the previous QB, finished the game, having thrown 15 passes and succeeding with 23 of them for 114 yards, however he also got one interception.
