Shea Theodore of the Vegas Golden Knights will miss the remainder of the 4 Nations Face-Off due to an injury

It’s already “next man up” for Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore will miss the rest of the tournament after getting an upper-body injury in Canada’s opening game against Sweden on Wednesday.

Vegas announced on Thursday that Theodore is considered “week-to-week” with the injury, which happened after a clean hit from Swedish forward Adrian Kempe in the second period of Canada’s 4-3 overtime win.

With Theodore out, Philadelphia’s Travis Sanheim will join the lineup for Canada when they play the USA on Saturday. Canada didn’t hold a full team practice on Thursday, so coach Jon Cooper mentioned he and his staff are still figuring out what role Sanheim will take on in place of Theodore.

“[Sanheim’s] checking in now, and he’s a big body, he can skate, he can play at this tempo,” Cooper said during a media availability on Thursday. “What exactly and where he’s going to fit, it’s hard to divulge now. Plus, we have two more days to get our heads wrapped around that.

This is my first experience with him, and he’s one of the guys soaking it all in and taking in the environment and how these experiences do nothing but help his game. I’m excited for him to play [and] more than that, I know he can play. He’ll be just fine.”

Sanheim and forward Sam Bennett were healthy scratches for Wednesday’s game, and both were on the ice for Thursday’s optional morning workout. Cooper pointed out that Sanheim was likely going to play in the tournament anyway, but he “just hate[s] the way [Sanheim] is checking in, and I’m sure he probably feels the same way.”

Sanheim agreed. He said he was immediately concerned seeing Theodore leave the ice in pain and focused on being supportive. It’s still unclear whether Theodore will stay with Canada for the rest of the tournament or return to Vegas, but Cooper said Theodore “will be with us” if he has the choice.

“You worry about him,” Sanheim said. “You don’t want to see anyone get hurt. I just felt for him and knew how big it meant to him to be a part of this. I’m just trying to be there for him. Unfortunate circumstance that he got injured.”

Getting the chance to play in the 4 Nations tournament is huge for Sanheim. He made Canada’s roster after having a career-best season with the Flyers, recording six goals and 27 points in 57 games while averaging a team-high 24:34 per game. (Theodore, by comparison, has seven goals and 48 points in 55 games for the Golden Knights, while playing 22:03 a night and taking on a big role on the power play.)

Vegas Golden Knights players celebrate a goal

Sanheim is also comfortable playing on either the left or right side, giving Cooper flexibility as he makes adjustments for Canada.

“I just think I have a solid two-way game,” Sanheim said. “I’m a guy that can skate and move the puck well. I’m used to playing [against] top guys, so I feel comfortable in that role. I’m just bringing about a lot of simple plays and the ability to play at both ends.”

Sanheim won’t be expected to replace Theodore exactly. Cooper is ready to adjust more than just the defensive pairings to keep things working without Theodore and make the most of what Sanheim can contribute.

“I think with Theo, it was tough to lose him because he can break pucks out,” Cooper said. “He can play with pace. He’s like a gazelle out there. Sandy does much of the same things. The difference is, Travis kills penalties. Whereas Theo…he was more of a power-play guy for us. So that’s probably the major trade-off between the two. But they both can skate. They both have length. And it’s never a bad thing to have another penalty killer.”

Sanheim doesn’t mind what’s asked of him now. It was exciting for him just to watch Wednesday’s game from the press box, and getting the chance to play on Saturday is even better.

“It’s been something that I’ve dreamt of doing,” Sanheim said about playing top-level hockey. “I’m very excited, I just said [to the coaches] that I’d be ready if they needed me. You hate to see it happen this way, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Cole Sillinger scores in overtime to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets past the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in Columbus

Cole Sillinger scored 52 seconds into overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 2-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday in Las Vegas.

Kent Johnson stole the puck from Vegas defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and went on a breakaway but was stopped by goalie Ilya Samsonov. Zach Werenski followed up with a rebound attempt that hit Samsonov’s pads and went to Sillinger, who put the puck into an empty part of the net.

Adam Fantilli also scored for Columbus, helping the team move past the Boston Bruins into the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot. Elvis Merzlikins made 25 saves for the Blue Jackets, who won three of their last four games.

Tomas Hertl scored for Vegas, which stayed tied with Edmonton for first place in the Pacific Division. Samsonov made 22 saves on 24 shots.

Vegas led 1-0 early in the first period when Hertl’s wrist shot from the left circle beat Merzlikins. This was Hertl’s 20th goal of the season, extending his point streak to 11 games (nine goals, six assists), just one short of the team record set by Jack Eichel in 2023-24.

Vegas Golden Knights (NHL)

Columbus tied it late in the first when Dmitri Voronkov knocked the puck away from under Samsonov’s pad. The puck slid across the crease, where Fantilli pushed it in off the skate of Vegas defenseman Nicolas Hague for his eighth goal in 12 games.

Vegas thought they had taken the lead late in the second period, but Ivan Barbashev’s rebound was waved off for goaltender interference after Eichel collided with Merzlikins.

Both teams had chances to win in the third period. Kirill Marchenko of Columbus had a backhand shot hit the crossbar with 7:39 left, and Shea Theodore of Vegas saw a shot clang off the crossbar with 2:36 remaining.

Dallas Stars Fans Angry at Mark Stone Over Miro Heiskanen Injury

Ottawa Senators fans remember Mark Stone not just for his 366 games with the team, but also for being a great person. Now playing for the Vegas Golden Knights, Stone has always been known for playing fairly, staying out of trouble, and mentoring young players like Brady Tkachuk.

So, it was surprising to see Stone’s name trending on social media on Wednesday with people calling him “dirty.”

During a game between the Golden Knights and the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night, Miro Heiskanen had to be helped off the ice after Stone accidentally collided with his knee while rushing up the ice. Fans reacted strongly to the incident online.

However, it wasn’t a dirty play, and there’s a simple explanation for what happened. Stone was tripped.

As Stone was trying to reach for the puck, Stars forward Roope Hintz attempted to block Stone’s path. Hintz’s skate blade made contact with Stone’s skate, causing him to lose his balance as he tried to make a move.

A better angle of the incident shows that Stone’s head was dangerously close to the collision, which no player would intentionally do.

It’s worth noting that Stone has only received six penalty minutes this season.

“I really hope (Heiskanen) is all right,” Stone said after the game. “But yeah, I was just trying to make a play and got tripped into him. I hope the outcome is good, but I think there was really no intent there.

Vegas Golden Knights (NHL)

“Obviously, I was just trying to make a play on the puck, and their guy (Hintz) kind of tripped me into him headfirst. I’d never dive headfirst into a guy.”

The incident, injury, and the resulting argument only add to the rivalry between the Golden Knights and the Stars, which has grown over the past five years with three playoff meetings, including two Western Conference Finals.

For Dallas fans, the idea of this being a “dirty” play is frustrating, especially since it injured their top defenseman. However, it was just an accident.

For a reminder of what a truly “dirty” play looks like in hockey, Stars captain Jamie Benn set the standard when he cross-checked Stone in the face with his full body weight in May 2023.

Panthers and Golden Knights Clash in Stanley Cup Finals Rematch Sunday Night

Sunday night promises excitement for NHL enthusiasts, featuring highly anticipated games. The highlight is a rematch of the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals between the Florida Panthers and the Vegas Golden Knights. For bettors, this matchup is an opportunity to leverage recent betting trends, including a strong 19-8 record on the last 27 picks and a 7-2 streak on player prop bets. As always, these betting lines, courtesy of Bet365, are subject to change, and fans are reminded to gamble responsibly.

Panthers’ Winning Streak Over Golden Knights

The Panthers have dominated the Golden Knights since their Stanley Cup Finals clash. Florida has won three consecutive games against Vegas, scoring four goals in each victory. Their earlier season meeting saw the Panthers triumph 4-3, even on the road. While Vegas once led the Western Conference, recent struggles have seen them go 2-6-1 with a 3.33 goals-against average in their last nine games, adding intrigue to this rematch on Golden Knights’ home ice.

Panthers and Golden Knights
Florida Panthers and Vegas Golden Knights (NHL)

Despite recent difficulties, the Golden Knights aim to bounce back. With no game on Saturday, Vegas enters this matchup well-rested and motivated to break their losing streak against the Panthers. Florida, on the other hand, may face fatigue after a Saturday game where they routed the San Jose Sharks 7-2. Vegas boasts a dominant 18-6-1 home record and a 2.44 goals-against average, factors that could stifle Florida’s offense.

Goaltending Key to Vegas’ Success

Goaltending will play a pivotal role, with Ilya Samsonov likely starting for Vegas. Samsonov has a mixed history against Florida but has been solid recently, posting a 7-3-0 record and a 2.22 goals-against average in his last ten starts. His ability to neutralize Florida’s offensive threats will be critical. Samsonov’s recent form provides hope for a defensive stand against a Panthers team that has been a challenging opponent.

Offensive struggles could characterize this physical, low-scoring game. Vegas has averaged just 2.67 goals per game during their recent skid, and their home games have often been tight affairs, with totals going under six goals in ten of their last 13 contests. If the Golden Knights can combine improved offense with their traditionally strong home defense, they stand a good chance of reversing their fortunes against Florida.

Golden Knights Dominate Panthers with Strong Offense and Hill’s Stellar Goaltending

The Florida Panthers started strong but faltered in a 4-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas seized the lead at 5:28 on their first shot when Brayden McNabb scored after a setup by Nicolas Roy and Keegan Kolesar. Despite Florida’s initial energy, turnovers and missed opportunities allowed Vegas to dictate the game early.

Second Period Push from Vegas

Vegas extended their lead early in the second period. Tanner Pearson, set up by Roy and Kolesar, used a precise wrist shot to beat Spencer Knight for a 2-0 advantage. Florida struggled to counter as the Golden Knights capitalized on defensive lapses. The Panthers’ offensive pressure failed to materialize into goals, leaving them chasing the game.

Florida finally broke through in the third period. Uvis Balinskis collected a loose puck and passed to Eetu Luostarinen, whose shot was deflected in by Anton Lundell at 1:56. Lundell’s effort gave the Panthers a spark, but Adin Hill’s stellar goaltending stymied further scoring attempts. Vegas quickly regained momentum with Jack Eichel’s breakaway goal, making it 3-1.

Vegas Seals the Victory

Vegas sealed the win with a late empty-netter from Tomas Hertl, assisted by Nicolas Roy, who notched his third assist. The Panthers’ defense struggled to contain Vegas’ dynamic offense, and their inability to convert 33 shots into more than one goal proved costly. Spencer Knight made 22 saves, but the lack of goal support left him with a tough result.

Adin Hill’s 32-save performance earned him the First Star honors. Anton Lundell extended his strong run with points in five of his last six games. Tomas Hertl’s scoring streak reached nine games, while Aleksander Barkov’s offensive drought continued. The Panthers finished their road trip 2-2, with Knight taking both losses despite keeping the team competitive.

Eichel enjoying best season yet as he aims to guide Golden Knights toward Stanley Cup contention in Las Vegas

Jack Eichel arrived in Las Vegas in 2021 with high expectations, and he has mostly met them, including playing a key role in the Golden Knights’ Stanley Cup win two seasons ago. Now, he has taken his performance to an even higher level.

Career-Best Numbers and MVP Buzz

Eichel has accumulated 58 points in 46 games, putting him in a strong position to break personal records and possibly even enter the MVP conversation. His strong performance has helped the Golden Knights stay at the top of the Pacific Division, despite a recent slump of 1-5-1. The Edmonton Oilers trail them by just one point.

Leadership Role and Growth

Coach Bruce Cassidy spoke about how Eichel took on a leadership role after some key players left in the offseason. Eichel recognized a leadership void and stepped up, saying, “I want to be that guy. I’m going to bring that.” He has become an elite playmaker and remains a skilled scorer, with 46 assists, ranking fourth in the NHL. He is just eight assists away from his career high.

Striving to Improve Goal Scoring

While Eichel has scored 12 goals this season, which is lower than his 31-goal performance last year, he could still improve as his shooting percentage is down to 8.3%. If he starts scoring more regularly, he could rise in the MVP rankings, where he is currently eighth.

Consistency and Leadership

Eichel credits his improvement to consistency and dedication to his routine. His teammates have taken notice, with forward Ivan Barbashev calling his preparation the best in the game. Coach Cassidy highlighted how Eichel’s work ethic sets a positive example for the team.

He compared Eichel’s leadership to players he coached in Boston, like Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron, and emphasized that the dedication of the best players creates a strong culture.

Looking Ahead to More Success

Since the Golden Knights won the Cup two seasons ago, Eichel’s game has been on a new level. Despite the current struggles, he is focused on getting the team back on track and securing more victories.

“Obviously, the team’s been in a little bit of a funk lately,” Eichel said. “So I think the only thing on any of our minds now is just trying to find our game again and rattle off some wins.”

The St. Louis Blues bounced back to beat the Vegas Golden Knights in a shootout

The St. Louis Blues bounced back after giving up a two-goal lead late in the third period to beat the Vegas Golden Knights 5-4 in a shootout at T-Mobile Arena on Monday.

Jake Neighbours and Brayden Schenn scored in the shootout for St. Louis after Jack Eichel and Pavel Dorofeyev scored for Vegas with the goalie pulled, forcing the game into overtime.

“It should give us a lot of confidence that when we play the right way and focus on the little details, and combine that with great effort and execution, we can compete with elite teams,” Blues coach Jim Montgomery said.

Neighbours, Schenn, Nathan Walker, and Cam Fowler scored for the Blues (23-21-4), who had lost 4-2 to the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday but have won three out of their last four games. Goalie Jordan Binnington made 28 saves in the win.

“After a game we weren’t proud of in Utah, we came out with a strong start,” Neighbours said. “Honestly, I thought we played well in the third period, but they just made two nice shots. Sometimes that happens. Our team stayed resilient and found a way to get the two points.”

Eichel and Dorofeyev each had a goal and an assist, and Shea Theodore added four assists for the Golden Knights (29-14-4), who have now lost four games in a row. Goalie Adin Hill made 24 saves.

“Nobody’s panicking, I’ll say that. We’re not in the room tearing the walls down,” said Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy. “It’s my job to get us ready to fight during parts of the season, like right now. It’s a bit of a slow patch in January. We’ve built ourselves a cushion, so maybe that’s playing into it.

Schenn gives Blues lead in opening period

Some of these teams are now playing catch-up, and their urgency is higher than ours right now. We’re working on addressing that, but it’s not something that changes instantly. It’s something that will take time.”

Schenn gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead at 8:25 of the first period, scoring with a wrist shot from above the left circle on a 3-on-1 rush.

Tomas Hertl tied the game 1-1 at 14:09 with a power-play goal, putting in a rebound from Dorofeyev’s shot in front of the net.

Walker responded for the Blues, giving them a 2-1 lead when he scored on a rebound below the left circle at 19:43.

Neighbours pushed the Blues’ lead to 3-1 at 6:31 of the second period, firing a wrist shot above Hill’s right shoulder from the left circle.

“[Robert Thomas] did a great job protecting the puck, drawing in almost three defenders. I just tried to get over there to support him,” Neighbours said. “He made a great play, and I just tried to get a good shot off.”

Brett Howden cut the Blues’ lead to 3-2 at 7:25, collecting a rebound off Theodore’s shot and scoring with a turnaround wrist shot from the slot.

Fowler then extended St. Louis’ lead to 4-2 at 19:29 with a slap shot from the point on the power play.

“People are attacking the net,” Montgomery said. “They’re attacking seams and getting to the net well. When it goes up top, I think [Justin] Faulk and Fowler are doing a really good job of getting shots through.”

Eichel brought Vegas back within one, making it 4-3 at 16:50 of the third period with a one-timer from the left circle. Dorofeyev tied the game 4-4 at 19:30 with a one-timer from the right circle.

“It was good resilience and a good push to at least get us a point,” Howden said. “There are definitely things we want to clean up to play a better game. We don’t want to be giving up four goals every night, that’s for sure. But it’s a step in the right direction to get our confidence up after coming back late.”

The Las Vegas Golden Knights remain dominant in the NHL Pacific Division

The Vegas Golden Knights have had a strong season, consistently finding ways to win, and they continued that trend on Friday against the San Jose Sharks.

After trailing by a goal going into the third period and struggling to control the fast and young Sharks, the Golden Knights needed something to change the momentum.

A penalty was called, but it wasn’t in favor of the Golden Knights. However, they took advantage of the situation. Alexander Holtz was penalized for tripping just 50 seconds into the third period, and Brayden McNabb and Jack Eichel scored shorthanded goals to tie the game and then take the lead.

McNabb’s goal came during 4-on-4 play after the Sharks’ penalty carried over from the second period. Eichel won the faceoff, which set up the breakout. The puck was passed back to McNabb, who used his signature curl and drag shot to score.

“He’s just such a glue guy on the team,” said Alex Pietrangelo. “You love seeing a guy like that have success.”

Just 23 seconds after tying the game, Mark Stone passed to Eichel, who beat Alexander Wennberg down the ice and set himself up for a breakaway. Eichel outwaited goalie Alexandar Georgiev to put the Golden Knights up 4-3.

Vegas Golden Knights (NHL)

With just over 14 minutes left in the third period, Pavel Dorofeyev ended his 11-game goalless streak to add an insurance goal for the Golden Knights. Dorofeyev wasn’t the only one ending a dry spell—Eichel’s goal was his first in six games, and McNabb’s was his first since October 17, the fifth game of the season.

The Golden Knights have shown they can win in many ways. They’ve shut teams down in defensive battles, outscored opponents in high-scoring games, and used their special teams to shift the game when needed. Their power play is ranked sixth in the NHL, and they’ve scored the second most shorthanded goals.

Experienced teams with a winning mentality understand that each game is different. The Golden Knights may enter with a specific game plan that works perfectly or one that doesn’t, but their calm and collected approach allows them to find a way to win together as a team.

Golden Knights defeat Flyers 4-1 with a three-goal second period in Las Vegas

Ilya Samsonov made 23 saves to secure his fifth straight win, and Pavel Dorofeyev scored the game-winner during a three-goal second period, as the Vegas Golden Knights came back to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 on Thursday in Las Vegas.

Mark Stone contributed a goal and an assist, while Nicolas Hague, Alexander Holtz, and Tanner Pearson also scored. Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin each had two assists for Vegas, which improved to 5-0-1 in its last six matchups with the Flyers.

Samsonov improved to 13-2-0 against Philadelphia.

Tyson Foerster and Travis Konecny scored for the Flyers, and Aleksei Kolosov made 22 saves.

Philadelphia took the lead 1-0 just 21 seconds into the game when Foerster scored off a rebound from Noah Cates’ shot for his fifth goal in the last seven games.

Vegas, which had only four shots on goal in the first period, responded in the second with three goals on their first two shots.

Vegas Golden Knights (NHL)

Stone tied the game at 51 seconds, redirecting Eichel’s backhand pass into the crease past Kolosov. Hague then gave the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead at 2:13, driving around the net and scoring with a wraparound shot.

Dorofeyev extended the lead to 3-1 at 18:22 with a powerful shot through traffic from the right faceoff circle.

Holtz made it 4-1 at 2:46 of the third with a shot that deflected off defenseman Jamie Drysdale’s leg and sailed past Kolosov’s glove.

The Flyers cut the deficit to 4-2 with Konecny’s power-play goal at 4:56, his career-high eighth of the season.

Philadelphia pulled Kolosov for an extra attacker with 2:20 left, but Pearson sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:24.

The strong Golden Knights aim to complete a sweep of the Flyers at home in Las Vegas

The Vegas Golden Knights start the new year leading the Pacific Division with 53 points and the best point percentage in the NHL at .716, following a strong 10-2-0 run in December.

However, they head into their Thursday game against the Philadelphia Flyers in Las Vegas feeling disappointed.

This is because they ended 2024 with a 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on New Year’s Eve, where the Golden Knights blew a 2-0 lead in the final 23 minutes.

The loss ended Vegas’ six-game winning streak, which was their longest since a seven-game streak to start the 2023-24 season.

“I know when I watch (the video), I’m going to be (ticked) because those are points we should have had,” said Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy. “We’re a better team than that, but they’re gone.”

Cassidy said his team lost some intensity after getting the early lead.

“Kind of self-inflicted plays,” Cassidy said. “We probably stopped playing halfway through the second period the way we needed to keep pushing, and it caught up to us.”

“We just have got to stick with our game plan,” said Vegas defenseman Noah Hanifin, who scored the goal to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead. “I think in the third period we sat back a little too much. No matter what the score is, you’ve got to stay on your toes and attack. I thought in the third we got away from that, which is not normal for us.”

The Golden Knights took only their fourth home loss in 19 games (15-4-0) and will play five of their next six games at T-Mobile Arena.

The Flyers, who are 2-2-0 on their six-game road trip, are coming off a 4-0 win against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

It was their second win in four nights during their three-game trip through California, following a 3-1 victory at Anaheim on Saturday and a 5-4 loss at Los Angeles on Sunday.

Philadelphia Flyers (NHL)

After their Thursday game in Las Vegas, the Flyers will wrap up their trip with a game at Toronto on Sunday.

“We’ve got a long trip here,” said Philadelphia coach John Tortorella after the win over the Sharks. “We’ve got teams coming up here that are very good hockey teams. Hopefully, we get some confidence from a couple of wins and bring it to them.”

A key concern for the Flyers is whether their No. 1 goalie, Samuel Ersson, will be available for the next two games.

Ersson made 15 saves against the Sharks before leaving with a lower-body injury after the second period. Aleksei Kolosov finished the game with seven saves in the combined shutout.

Ersson (9-6-2, 3.02 goals-against average) has missed time this season due to a groin injury. He was hurt when San Jose’s Luke Kunin collided with him in front of the net, but Ersson stayed in the game until the end of the period.

“I think it happened in the collision. … The way it’s gone for Sam, it’s a concern,” Tortorella said.

This game will be the second of the two matchups between the teams this season. Vegas won the first meeting 5-4 in a shootout on Nov. 25 in Philadelphia, with Jack Eichel scoring the shootout winner and adding a goal and an assist.

Samsonov Shines in Golden Knights’ 3-0 Shutout Win Over Flames, Extending Win Streak to Six

The Vegas Golden Knights earned their third shutout win of the season with a dominant 3-0 victory over the Calgary Flames at T-Mobile Arena. This shutout came just two months after a 5-0 win over Calgary on October 28, and it extended their current win streak to six games. The team’s goaltender, Ilya Samsonov, was instrumental in the victory, stopping all 31 shots he faced, marking his first shutout with the Golden Knights. His performance, along with solid team defense and excellent special teams, played a significant role in securing the team’s 25th win of the season.

Despite facing some adversity early on, including a two-man disadvantage late in the first period, the Golden Knights managed to keep the game scoreless. Their penalty kill, which has become one of their strengths after being a weak spot earlier in the season, was crucial in holding off Calgary. The team killed off all penalties, including a delay-of-game minor in the second period, and entered the second intermission still in a scoreless tie. This resilience helped maintain a tight, competitive game.

The Golden Knights broke the deadlock late in the second period, with Brett Howden scoring the game-winning goal. Howden deflected a shot from Alex Pietrangelo, finishing off a fast, well-executed passing play. Initially credited to Pietrangelo, the goal was later given to Howden, marking his 15th of the season and tying him for the team lead in goals with Ivan Barbashev. This goal came at a crucial moment, giving Vegas a one-goal lead heading into the final period.

In the third period, Vegas capitalized on their power play opportunities. After several unsuccessful attempts earlier in the game, the Golden Knights broke through with a power-play goal from Victor Olofsson, who scored his eighth goal of the season on a one-timer. The goal, which came midway through the third period, provided the team with a 2-0 lead. Tanner Pearson sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final seconds, adding his second point of the game after assisting on Howden’s earlier marker.

The Golden Knights’ strong overall performance in this game highlighted their growing depth and ability to manage close contests. With a 15-3-0 record on home ice and 44 out of 52 points earned against Western Conference teams, the Golden Knights are firmly positioned at the top of the standings with 53 points (25-8-3). The team’s success has been built on solid goaltending, a strong penalty kill, and timely power-play goals. As they head into their final game of 2024 against the Montreal Canadiens, Vegas looks to maintain their momentum and continue their impressive season.

Golden Knights Overpower Sharks 6-3 with Strong Third Period, Extend Winning Streak to Five Games

The Vegas Golden Knights secured a commanding 6-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Friday night, bolstered by two pivotal short-handed goals from Brayden McNabb and Jack Eichel just 23 seconds apart in the third period. Alex Pietrangelo was a key playmaker with three assists, while Noah Hanifin, Mark Stone, Pavel Dorofeyev, and Brett Howden each contributed goals. The Golden Knights scored four unanswered goals in the third period to dominate the game, extending their winning streak to five games.

Rookie Will Smith stood out for the Sharks, recording a goal and an assist. San Jose also received contributions from Shakir Mukhamadullin, who notched his first NHL goal, and Tyler Toffoli, who scored his team-leading 14th goal with an unconventional bank shot late in the second period. Despite leading 3-2 early in the third and being on a power play, the Sharks were unable to sustain their momentum against the aggressive Knights.

Golden Knights Overpower Sharks 6-3 with Strong Third Period, Extend Winning Streak to Five Games

The Golden Knights seized control in the third period, capitalizing on critical opportunities to overwhelm the Sharks. McNabb’s game-tying goal and Eichel’s subsequent go-ahead goal within seconds exemplified Vegas’s ability to turn the tide. Goaltender Adin Hill provided a solid presence with 22 saves for Vegas, while Alexandar Georgiev made 30 saves for San Jose. Despite the effort, the Sharks could not keep up with the relentless Golden Knights.

San Jose’s struggles highlight the challenges of their rebuilding phase. Having lost five consecutive games and 12 of their last 14, the Sharks faltered against one of the NHL’s top teams despite moments of competitiveness. A poignant moment of the night was a video tribute honoring Tomas Hertl’s return to San Jose, marking his first game back since being traded to Vegas. Hertl, who played 11 seasons with the Sharks, was a beloved figure in the franchise’s history.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will host the Calgary Flames on Sunday night as they aim to extend their winning streak. Meanwhile, the Sharks will seek to regroup when they host the Flames on Saturday night, hoping to end their skid and find success in their rebuilding journey.
