Victor Osimhen seems to have found a possible way out of Napoli, as talks have started for a loan move to Turkish club Galatasaray.
Recently, the Nigerian forward was connected with Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Saudi club Al-Ahli, but no transfer happened before the end of the transfer window in Europe’s top leagues last week.
The transfer window for the Turkish league remains open until September 13, and Galatasaray now needs a new center forward after Mauro Icardi’s injury.
Galatasaray announced on Instagram late Monday, “The player and his club SSCN Napoli SPA have begun official talks regarding the temporary transfer of professional footballer Victor James Osimhen.”
Osimhen scored 26 goals when Napoli won Serie A in 2023, but injuries have often hindered him throughout his career.
He hasn’t been training with Napoli, which has already brought in Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea. Lukaku is now reunited with coach Antonio Conte, with whom he previously won Serie A at Inter Milan.
At 25, Osimhen still has many years left to play at a high level. Known for his heading ability and face mask, he has netted 76 goals in 133 matches across all competitions for Napoli since his record-setting transfer of 70 million euros ($77 million) four years ago.
Osimhen was frustrated last season when Napoli finished 10th in their title defense, despite him scoring 15 Serie A goals.
If he joins Galatasaray, Osimhen would be back with Napoli’s all-time leading scorer, Dries Mertens.
