Guy Lafleur, a towering figure in Montreal hockey history, glided down the right

wing for the Canadiens in the 1970s, golden locks streaming behind him, before

freezing many a goaltender with his lethal slapshot, was known as "panache."

From 1974-75 to 1979-80, Lafleur scored at least 50 goals 

in six consecutive seasons. From 1971 through 1984,

he appeared in 961 games for the Canadiens,

scoring 1,246 points, which is still a franchise record.

"He was a great player," stated Scotty Bowman, the Canadiens' head coach from 1971 to 1979.
