The World Series won the competition for TV viewers against “Monday Night Football.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ 4-2 win over the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the World Series averaged 13.64 million viewers on Fox, Fox Deportes, and streaming, according to early data from Nielsen.

This outperformed the 13.4 million who watched the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 26-18 victory over the New York Giants on ABC, ESPN, ESPN Deportes, ESPN2, and streaming.

The viewership for the Yankees-Dodgers game peaked at 14.25 million between 9 and 9:15 p.m. EDT. This was the most-watched Game 3 since 2018, when the Dodgers had an 18-inning victory over the Red Sox, averaging 13.3 million viewers.

This was Fox’s most-watched prime-time show on a Monday since Game 5 of the 2013 Series between Boston and St. Louis, which drew 14.45 million viewers.

Since 1986, there have been nine World Series games played on a Monday night, but only four of those went up against “Monday Night Football” on network television.

Last year was the first time the NFL outperformed the World Series on a Monday night. The Texas Rangers’ 3-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 3 last year averaged just 8.13 million viewers, while Detroit’s 26-14 victory over Las Vegas that night had an average of 15.2 million on ESPN, ABC, and ESPN Deportes.

Through three games, the World Series is averaging 14.42 million viewers, its highest average in seven years.

The game had a 20.0 rating and 52 share in Los Angeles, and an 11.6 rating and 29 share in New York.

The rating shows the percentage of TV households watching, while the share indicates the percentage of the audience viewing at that moment.
