Rose Namajunas, the former UFC women’s strawweight champion, is preparing to make her long-awaited return to the octagon in March. After her move to the flyweight division in September, Namajunas faced off against Manon Fiorot in her first bout at 125 pounds. Unfortunately, her hopes were dashed when she suffered a broken finger early in the fight, leading to a unanimous decision loss. This defeat marked her second consecutive loss, with her previous setback coming against Carla Esparza in May 2022.
Following her loss at flyweight, there was much speculation about Namajunas’ next move. However, it has now been officially confirmed that she will be squaring off against top contender Amanda Ribas at UFC Vegas 88 in March. Ribas is coming off a knockout victory over Luana Pinheiro in November and has had a mixed record of wins and losses since 2020.
While neither Namajunas nor Ribas have made an official announcement about the matchup, Namajunas has been dropping hints about her comeback in recent months. This fight would also inject much-needed excitement into the UFC Vegas 88 card, which currently lacks a main event.
The highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on March 23rd. At present, only a few matchups have been confirmed, with no main event announced. However, the addition of the Namajunas vs. Ribas flyweight bout would help fill this void, although it remains uncertain whether the fight will be scheduled for five rounds.
