Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George has a bone bruise on his left knee and will miss two games, the team announced on Thursday.
The 76ers said that George did not suffer any structural damage to the knee, which he had hyperextended during the preseason, after injuring it again in Wednesday night’s loss to Memphis. This game was the first time this season that George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey all started together.
George will miss home games on Friday against Brooklyn and Sunday against the Los Angeles Clippers, his former team. The nine-time All-Star, who is 34 years old, will be evaluated again on Monday.
The Sixers lost 117-111 to the Grizzlies on Wednesday, bringing their record to 2-12, the worst in the NBA before Thursday night’s games.
George signed a four-year, $212 million contract with Philadelphia after five seasons with the Clippers. He has averaged 14.9 points in eight games this season.
Embiid has been out due to injuries, load management rest, and a suspension, while Maxey was dealing with a hamstring injury. The 76ers, who were expected to be contenders in the Eastern Conference, haven’t won a game since their overtime victory over Charlotte on Nov. 10.
