According to a recent update from Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa is interested in bringing Barcelona center-back Clement Lenglet to Villa Park.

Before the summer transfer ends Friday night, Unai Emery wants to strengthen his Villans team.

Tyrone Mings suffered a potentially season-ending injury in Villa’s season-opener against Newcastle United, so it’s unsurprising that the team would be open to strengthening their backline in the days left in the transfer market.

Since the Villans defeated Hibernian 5-0 in the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off last week, the Spanish head coach is ready to balance Premier League and European responsibilities, with Thursday’s replay at Villa Park expected to be a formality.

The 28-year-old played for Tottenham Hotspur last season while on loan from the Catalan giants, but he struggled to make an impression at Hotspur Way as the north London club missed out on European football.

The player, who reportedly earns £197,000 per week, made 35 appearances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, scoring once and assisting twice.

What about Aston Villa and Lenglet?

Lenglet was reportedly referred to as a “high-level player” by Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. According to Romano, a La Liga team is also interested in the center-back, giving Villa some competition.

He stated that negotiations are still going on. Aston Villa is in conversation with Barcelona about this potential as I speak. Lenglet’s interest in a Spanish club also creates some competition from La Liga.

What is Next for Aston Villa?

Aston Villa has had a successful transfer window, but there are still a few days to add Lenglet and other players.

According to TalkSPORT writer Alex Crook, Villa is expected to be busy in the final week of the window, given the need for a center-forward following Cameron Archer’s transfer to Sheffield United.

Joao Felix, a forward for Atletico Madrid and Portugal, was a target for the Villans, but Romano has since disclosed that the player is hoping to join Barcelona.

As we’re talking about the Catalan powerhouses, 90min has stated that Villa is willing to pay £17 million for the services of Barcelona winger Abde Ezzalzouli.

Bayer Leverkusen of the Bundesliga has joined the former European Cup champions to pursue the Moroccan star.
