Chris Sutton gushed over Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. In the summer of 2023, Mac Allister switched from Brighton and Hove Albion to Liverpool.

According to former Everton player Leon Osman, Alexis MacAllister was Liverpool’s acquisition and the summer’s top signing.

The Reds were to sign several players during the summer transfer window. They probably would have done so because last year’s pitch was stale.

But because so many players left, Anfield suggests that Jurgen Klopp’s hand was forced. That held for the midfield in particular. At the end of their contracts in the summer, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Naby Keita quit their respective teams.

A need for additions arose because they were followed out the door by starting midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, bringing the total number of midfield departures to five.

Mac Allister, who it looked like the entire Premier League was wanting, was the first player Klopp signed after taking over at Brighton.

Dominik Szoboszlai was acquired by Liverpool, and later in the transfer window, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch were acquired by them.

At this stage in the season, the former pair are regulars, while Endo has made one start and two substitute appearances, and Gravenberch is to play because of how soon after the Reds’ final game he moved.

Osman Believes that Mac Allister Will Sign this Summer

However, Mac Allister is receiving the plaudits, especially from Osman, a one-time Everton player. The Toffees legend sees that acquisition to be the season’s best signing.

On Premier League Productions, he declared, “Alexis Mac Allister is who I’m going for.” “I think £35–40m for a World Cup champion; I think he is on an upward path; his form is improving. We discussed Tonali for £50 million, and for the price, I think Liverpool struck.

Newcastle probably signed him largely because of his experience competing in top-tier European competition.

But Liverpool acquired a player who was instrumental in a World Cup victory and has excelled in the Premier League for the past two seasons. In the middle of the park, he is already forged a strong alliance with another newcomer, Szoboszlai.
