Video Shows Blizzard Conditions at Highmark Stadium Before Steelers Game

It’s a good thing the NFL moved Sunday’s Buffalo Bills versus Pittsburgh Steelers matchup to Monday afternoon.

The Bills shared a video of blizzard conditions at Highmark Stadium on Saturday night, and considering the field can barely be seen, it would not only have been difficult for the game to be played on Sunday, but it would have also been dangerous for both players and fans to be in attendance.

The Bills and Steelers were initially scheduled to play their AFC Wild Card Round matchup at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, but the NFL announced Saturday that the game was being moved to 4:30 p.m. ET on Monday to prioritize safety due to the snowstorm.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul spoke with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, emergency response teams, and the Bills before a decision to postpone the game was made.

“Now, you may see clear skies [Sunday] morning, but don’t be fooled,” Hochul said, per ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg. “The bull’s-eye of the storm is predicted to hit midday Sunday afternoon right during the scheduled Buffalo Bills game. … [The game will] continue to be played at Highmark Field right in Orchard Park. It’s all part of our critical efforts to keep New Yorkers, motorists, and fans safe from this wildly unpredictable storm.”

A winter storm warning is in effect for parts of Western New York until 7 a.m. ET on Monday. The storm could drop up to three feet of snow in the area.

The Bills remain the favorite to reach the AFC Divisional Round with -600 odds, per DraftKings Sportsbook. If the Steelers pull off the upset, they will be in line for a meeting with the No. 1 Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.

The Bills and Steelers aren’t the only teams facing severe weather conditions this weekend.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins will be dealing with temperatures below zero during Sunday night’s matchup at Arrowhead Stadium.
