Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is resolute in his desire to retain the services of Callum Wilson, despite interest from Chelsea and Arsenal.
According to reports from The Evening Standard, both London clubs, along with Manchester United, are monitoring Wilson’s situation at St James’ Park. Speculation suggests that Newcastle could entertain offers in the region of £18 million for the English striker to ensure compliance with Premier League financial regulations.
Despite the potential allure of a move, Wilson’s form this season, with eight goals and one assist in 20 appearances across all competitions, has made him an attractive target for Chelsea and Arsenal as they seek attacking reinforcements.
However, Howe emphasized Wilson’s commitment to Newcastle, stating that the club has no intention of parting ways with the veteran forward. In a statement relayed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Howe said:
“Once again, he’s 100% committed to this club. We want to keep Callum. But obviously some things are out of my control.”
Chelsea and Arsenal’s pursuit of a striker stems from their respective struggles in front of goal this season. With Nicolas Jackson yet to fully adapt to the Premier League and reports suggesting a potential departure for Armando Broja, Chelsea are in need of attacking reinforcements. Similarly, Arsenal’s frontline, led by Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli, has failed to replicate its previous season’s form.
Wilson, who has a year remaining on his contract with Newcastle, has been with the club since September 2020, amassing 46 goals and 11 assists in 102 appearances across all competitions.
