Matt Riddle and Goldberg, two former WWE Superstars known for their contrasting wrestling styles, have long harbored a strained relationship, adding an intriguing dynamic to any potential encounters between them.
Riddle, often outspoken, has not shied away from taking jabs at the WWE Hall of Famer over the years, eliciting sharp responses from the 57-year-old Goldberg. Despite the verbal sparring, the former United States Champion still harbors a desire to face off against The Icon, a showdown that could potentially unfold in AEW.
In a recent episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Riddle addressed the current status of his feud with Goldberg, emphasizing that their differences remain unresolved. He also made it clear that he isn’t particularly enamored with Goldberg’s wrestling style.
The 38-year-old wrestler went on to express his opinion that while Goldberg may have a highlight reel of signature moves like the Spear and Jackhammer, his matches lack the timeless quality found in classics like Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart or Razor Ramon’s groundbreaking ladder match.
“Nobody’s ever gonna tune back in to watch a classic Goldberg match. You might watch the Spear compilation, Jackhammer compilation, cool. Maybe one or two matches, but you’re not going back. You’re not going back like you go back to watch Shawn Michaels versus Bret Hart in the Iron Man match.
Or Razor Shawn in the first-ever ladder match,” Riddle remarked, highlighting the distinction in the enduring appeal of wrestling classics.
“I could keep continuing you’re not gonna go back like that, because he doesn’t have any of those in his arsenal. But he’s still one of the best of all time. And I’m not going to argue that I’d say that to his face,” he added candidly.
