Liverpool’s offer to former sporting director Michael Edwards to lead the club’s restructuring efforts has reportedly been turned down.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool reached out to Edwards over the weekend following Jürgen Klopp’s surprising announcement of his departure at the end of the season.

Edwards had spent 11 successful years working alongside Klopp, contributing to the club’s major successes, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup triumphs.

However, Edwards stepped down from his role as sporting director in June 2022, with Julian Ward briefly taking over before also departing after a year. Jorg Schmadtke, the current sporting director, is also set to leave his position at the end of the current transfer window.

Despite Liverpool’s offer for Edwards to oversee the club’s restructuring post-Klopp, he declined the proposal, reportedly due to his current role as a consultant for Ludonautics, a sports advisory business founded by former Liverpool director of research Ian Graham.

With Klopp’s impending departure, Liverpool faces a crucial summer as they seek to replace not only their manager but also key members of the coaching staff and recruitment team.

Just a week ago, Liverpool fans were reveling in the possibility of achieving an unprecedented quadruple. However, their dreams have been tinged with shock as Jürgen Klopp’s announcement of his departure has reverberated across the footballing world.

Klopp’s reign at Liverpool, spanning nine years, has been marked by immense success, making him one of the club’s most celebrated managers. His crowning achievement came in 2020 when he led the Reds to their first English league title in 30 years, clinching the Premier League trophy.
