Lewis Hamilton is set to depart the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team and join Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season. The seven-time world champion, with a remarkable record of 103 wins and 104 pole positions, will bid farewell to Mercedes, his team since 2013, to take the seat of Carlos Sainz at Ferrari next year.
This development comes on transfer deadline day just before the start of the 2024 F1 season, kicking off with the Bahrain Grand Prix from February 28 to March 2.
Despite clinching six world titles with Mercedes, Hamilton has faced challenges and has not secured a victory since December 2021, leading to visible frustrations aired in press interviews. His winless streak in 2022 marked a notable career first.
Earlier rumors had hinted at Hamilton’s potential move to Ferrari this year, but a new two-year contract with Mercedes, signed last summer alongside teammate George Russell, seemed to cement his stay until 2025.
However, recent reports suggest he may depart after just one season. Although neither Mercedes nor Ferrari have officially confirmed the move, sources close to the negotiations have indicated significant progress, describing it as a “serious possibility.” If finalized, Hamilton will team up with Charles Leclerc for the 2025 season.
