Jon Anik shared his perspective on the potential for Conor McGregor to compete at 165 pounds in pursuit of another UFC title, although no official plans exist for new weight classes in the UFC. Nevertheless, the idea has generated interest, particularly concerning McGregor.

During a recent episode of The Sitdown w/ Malik Wright podcast, Anik discussed the notion of McGregor vying for a UFC title. Responding to Malik Wright’s query about McGregor’s future in title fights, Anik contemplated the possibility of a 165-pound championship bout. He remarked:

“The UFC hasn’t indicated any plans to introduce a 165-pound division as far as I know. It seems to be more rumor than reality. However, if there were ever a time to consider it and potentially establish a championship for Conor McGregor, even though he hasn’t secured a victory in four years, perhaps now would be the moment to explore that possibility.”

This isn’t the first instance of a fighter being linked to a hypothetical 165-pound division in the UFC. Former interim lightweight title contender Kevin Lee, who has grappled with weight issues at lightweight both in and out of the UFC, previously advocated for the creation of such a division.

Nevertheless, the UFC has shown no inclination toward introducing a super lightweight or light welterweight division. Regarding McGregor’s aspirations for a title, he had previously toyed with the idea of pursuing welterweight gold to become a three-division champion.

However, such ambitions appear distant. As noted by Anik, McGregor has not claimed victory in four years and currently holds a record of 1-3 in his last four fights. Given his recent performance, he lacks the standing to contend for a title in the lightweight division, let alone welterweight.
