Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has responded to Jamie Carragher’s comparison of him to club legends such as Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez, and Michael Owen.
Jota’s recent impressive performances, with four goals and one assist in his last four matches across all competitions, have drawn praise. In Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Bournemouth on January 21, he scored twice and provided an assist.
Following the game, Carragher commended Jota’s finishing skills, even suggesting that he is a superior finisher to Torres, Owen, and Suarez. Carragher stated (via Sky Sports):
“I think of some of the strikers I’ve played alongside: Michael Owen, Luis Suárez, Fernando Torres, Robbie Fowler. I think he [Jota] is the best finisher…”
Jota has responded to Carragher’s remarks, stating (via The Anfield Talk):
“I think he’s a bit over the edge! I believe in myself but the names he put alongside me, I think they’re a bit better.”
Since joining Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, Jota has contributed 54 goals and 20 assists in 138 appearances.
Comparatively, Owen scored 158 goals and provided 50 assists in 297 games for Liverpool, Torres contributed 81 goals and 20 assists in 142 games, and Suarez recorded 82 goals and 46 assists in 133 games.
