Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has heaped praise on Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard for his exceptional performance in the team’s recent 3-1 victory against Liverpool.
Odegaard, who has faced criticism for not living up to expectations this season, showcased his quality in a dominant display against the league leaders. The 25-year-old created the most chances in the match, completed 27 out of 36 passes, and managed two shots.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Richards commended Odegaard for his resurgence in form against Liverpool. He emphasized:
“I know Jorginho received the Player of the Match award, but Odegaard’s performance today was outstanding… Jorginho was exceptional, especially considering it was his first start since November, but Odegaard’s passing accuracy and composure on the ball were exceptional. He’s returned to his best form. Despite experiencing a dip due to injury, he was outstanding today.”
Odegaard, who contributed 15 goals and eight assists last season, played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s victory, featuring alongside summer signing Declan Rice and Jorginho in a 4-3-3 formation. He displayed his defensive capabilities by winning tackles and duels, while also showcasing his dribbling skills.
Next, Arsenal are set to take on West Ham United in a Premier League fixture at the London Stadium on Sunday, February 11th.
