Daniil Medvedev has decided to withdraw from the upcoming Rotterdam Open, citing his arduous Australian Open campaign and lingering foot injury as the primary factors behind his decision.
The Australian Open runner-up endured a grueling journey to the final in Melbourne, spending an unprecedented 24 hours and 17 minutes on the court throughout the tournament, a record in Grand Slam history.
Despite a strong start in the final against Jannik Sinner, Medvedev struggled to maintain his momentum, ultimately conceding the match to the Italian in a hard-fought battle.
Reflecting on his decision to skip the Rotterdam Open, Medvedev emphasized the importance of prioritizing his recovery. “Unfortunately, I have to pull out of Rotterdam,” he expressed.
“After an incredibly long and tough run in Australia, my body, especially my right foot, is not yet fully recovered to compete and defend my title.” Despite his withdrawal, Medvedev expressed his fondness for the event and his anticipation of returning in 2025.
