Oleksandr Usyk appeared to take a subtle jab at Tyson Fury with his choice of eyewear following the postponement of their highly anticipated undisputed clash.
The bout was delayed after Fury sustained a significant cut above his eye during sparring, prompting a rescheduling to May 18. The sparring partner involved in the incident shared his perspective, revealing that he felt insulted before delivering the accidental blow.
Usyk addressed the postponement and seemed to mock Fury during media engagements by sporting protective eyewear, seemingly about the British boxer’s injury.
Speaking to Boxing King Media, the WBA (super), IBF, and WBO champion remained composed about the situation, stating, “I’m not upset. I trust in God, whichever way he is leading me is the best way.”
Following the postponement, conspiracy theories emerged on social media suggesting that Fury was deliberately avoiding Usyk. This notion provoked a response from Frank Warren, who vehemently defended Fury against such claims.
“Tyson wants [the fight]. Some of the stuff that’s been going out, I’ve never heard anything like it,” Warren asserted. “Has Tyson got make-believe stitches in his eye? What they’re saying is libelous and scandalous.”
Fury returned to Morecambe for treatment on his eye, temporarily halting his training in Saudi Arabia.
“He’ll want to be with his family,” Warren noted. “He can’t continue training as such. He can tick over. He can get on the bike and keep well but when you’re training for a fight you’re training to reach your ultimate best, your peak. Now he has to wind down and set everything back in motion to get himself up and ready and make sure he’s at his best for 18 May.”
